Overview

The Property Tax Specialist I in the Wayne County Treasurer's Office provides exceptional customer service to taxpayers. The Property Tax Specialist I collects and records tax payments as well as receives and records receipts from other County offices and departments and assists in preparing payment plans for taxpayers. This position reports to the Department Supervisor and Manager in the Cashiering Division. Responsibilities

Interact with the public to determine their tax related needs. Direct taxpayers to the appropriate City or County agency to remedy their situation. Process all payments using PTA, PTC and the cash recyclers via the CashWare software. Payments include: Cash and check payments at the cashier windows Handle Side Window Payments: re-applied payments, Receipts to Tax Authority payments, refunds with miscellaneous receipts, missing legatees and deeds Process deposit from various County Departments, Jail, Sheriff, Prosecuting Attorney, Retirement, Family Services, Mgmt & Budget as well as process inter-office deposits such as 911 surcharges, penal fines, stadium excise taxes, etc. Balance & reconcile PTA, PTC and CashWare activity daily. Educational/Experience Requirements

A high school diploma or its equivalent; AND At least four (4) years of full-time paid clerical experience performing duties such as data entry, processing and reviewing documents, handling public contact inquiries, maintaining files and performing cashiering. Type of Assessments

A Written Assessment (100%) will be administered covering knowledge of basic math skills, general office practices, general clerical practices and procedures and related knowledge. Candidates must pass all tests in order to be placed on the eligibility list. In the event that the number of eligible applicants is equal to or less than the number required for certification, the Department of Personnel/Human Resources may substitute for the above tests with an evaluation of experience and training or other such tests as the Department may deem desirable to determine the competence of the applicants for appointment. How to Apply : The application may be used both for determining admission to the examination and for rating experience and training. Section 5 (b) of Rule 6 of the Rules of the Department of Personnel/Human Resources provides that persons denied permission to compete in an examination may make a written appeal to the Wayne County Civil Service Commission for a final decision within twenty (20) days following the mailing of such notification, stating the basis on which it is felt that their application should be accepted. Appeal of Rejection:

An appeal must be filed within twenty (20) days following the mailing of the rejection stating the basis on which the application should be accepted. Review of Examination : A request to review an examination must be made in writing within twenty (20) days after the notice of result of the examination is mailed. An appeal concerning the rating received must be made in writing within twenty (20) days after the review. An appeal must state the basis on which it is claimed that the rating is improper.
