Duties and Responsibilities
The Ocean Freight Manager is responsible for the end-to-end management of ocean import and export operations within an NVOCC environment, responsible for the strategic direction, operational execution, and regulatory compliance of all ocean freight services (FCL, LCL, import/export). This role oversees the full life cycle of ocean shipments and leads cross-functional teams to deliver efficient, cost-effective, and customer-focused logistics solutions. The position serves as the subject matter expert in ocean freight operations, with accountability for driving performance, improving processes, and maintaining strong carrier and customer relationships. Manages, oversees, and performs supervisory tasks to direct and control activities performed to effectively manage the end-to-end Ocean Freight processes. Partner with finance and branch leadership, review account-level profitability, recommending adjustments to improve margin and operational performance. Review and manage month end reports, review P/L, open Accounts Payables Accounts Receivables. Oversee shipment accounting functions, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, cost allocation, and timely financial reporting. Build and maintain relationships with customers, vendors, and third-party service providers to optimize cargo delivery. Address and resolve customer inquiries promptly to maintain satisfaction and trust. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including customs regulations and trade laws. Stay updated on changes in ocean freight regulations and import/export controls. Set KPIs for productivity, accuracy, and customer satisfaction. Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching and escalation support. Act as senior escalation point for key customers and internal stakeholders Responsible for hiring, coaching, training, and developing subordinate staff. Assigns work, sets completion dates, reviews work, and manages performance in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and performance management processes. Minimum Requirements
5+ years\' ocean freight experience within an NVOCC or freight forwarding environment is required. 1+ years\' leadership experience in the freight forwarding industry is required Hazmat / DG experience is preferred 1+ years\' CargoWise software experience is preferred Hands-on experience with FCL, LCL, and co-loading operations Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, and presentations) Strong computer skills: Microsoft (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, & Outlook) Demonstrated leadership ability to include driving KPIs, employee engagement / team building. Strong ability to develop, coach, train, and mentor staff to success. Preferred Qualifications
10+ years import operational experience in international transportation, preferably with an international freight forwarder CargoWise platform experience Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) certification Customs Broker License Physical Requirements
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and co-workers. Regular use of the telephone, virtual meetings, and e-mail for communication. Hearing, vision, and speaking within normal ranges are essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information, and to prepare or inspect documents. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computers, calculators, and copiers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, handle, use hands to grasp, or feel and operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone keypad.
