Jefferson Parish Civil Service Benefits Purpose of Announcement: EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF INSPECTION AND CODE AND ENFORCEMENT AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR. Kind of Work

Inspects and reports on electrical construction work in Jefferson Parish. Investigates and enforces all regulations, laws, and restrictions governing electrical construction and installations in residential and commercial buildings. Issues summons to those in violation of the electrical code. Minimum Qualifications For Admission To Examination

Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish; plus, Possession of or eligibility to obtain (through previously successful regulator examination) a current Class A/Master Jefferson Parish Electrical license. Possession of a current Louisiana driver\'s license and an acceptable driving record. NOTE: A valid driver\'s license issued by a state other than Louisiana is acceptable for application; however, once an employment offer is extended, an applicant has ten (10) days to obtain the required Louisiana license. Failure to obtain a Louisiana license will disqualify an applicant for permanent employment in this position. Use of a personal vehicle is required in such positions and is reimbursed on a mileage basis. Kind of Examination

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral interview or any combination thereof. Vacation (Annual Leave): Employees accumulate one half day of paid vacation for every two weeks worked. Leave accrual rates increase with years of service. Any unused annual leave is usually paid upon separation from Parish Employment. Sick Leave: Employees accumulate one half day of paid sick leave for every two weeks worked. Sick leave is available for personal illness, injury or medical consultations. Holidays: Nine paid official holidays are observed, plus any holidays declared by Parish Officials. Life Insurance: All regular employees receive a life insurance policy equal to one year's salary. Extra insurance may be purchased. Medical Insurance: An HMO medical insurance plan is available for employees and their dependents. Jefferson Parish pays 80% of the premium for employees and 50% of the premiums for dependents. Flexible Benefits Plan: Employees have the opportunity to save money by paying for health insurance and optional insurance with pre-tax dollars. A Flexible Savings Account for Medical Expenses and Dependent Care is also available. Retirement: Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees\' Retirement System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with 10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service. Tenure Payment: Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year. Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid. Deferred Compensation Plan (457b plan): Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to defer up to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings. Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination without penalty. This plan is provided by Nationwide Retirement Solutions 1-877-677-3678. Special leaves of absence for military service, maternity leave, etc., may be granted in accordance with the Personnel Rules.
