Overview
Job Summary: The Digital Content Specialist is responsible for creating and managing compelling digital content that tells the story of Nashville Rescue Mission and engages donors, volunteers, staff, guests, and the broader community. This role is highly creative and hands-on, with a strong focus on storytelling through social media, email marketing, photography, and written content. Working closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Digital Content Specialist brings the Mission’s work to life through thoughtful content creation and marketing channel management. This role executes and supports digital marketing initiatives, including social media content and campaigns, website and blog content, promotional materials, and email communications. While this role does not manage people, it manages multiple functions and channels, requiring strong ownership, confidence, and the ability to work independently while collaborating across teams. The ideal candidate is a creative communicator with strong content instincts, a passion for storytelling, and a heart for the ministry of Nashville Rescue Mission. This role plays a key part in shaping how the community experiences and understands the work of Nashville Rescue Mission. Position Responsibilities
Content Creation and Storytelling (40%): Create engaging digital content that reflects the Mission’s voice, brand, and values across social media, email, website, and other channels as applicable. Lead the creation and management of the monthly social media content calendar, with a strong emphasis on storytelling and visual content. Conduct interviews and collaborate with staff, donors, volunteers, and program participants to gather stories and content. Capture and curate photography and video content for digital use (social, email, web, etc.). Write compelling copy for social posts, emails, captions, and short-form storytelling content. Post content to social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok). Create simple, effective graphics using tools such as Canva and Adobe Suite to support digital storytelling. Publish web content and graphic updates (blog posts, home page banners, donation pages, etc.) based on monthly strategy outlined by the Director of Marketing and Communications. Email Marketing (20%): Create, test, and send emails through the email platform based on monthly strategy outlined by the Director of Marketing and Communications. Manage email lists to improve engagement and relevance. Support storytelling-focused email campaigns that connect supporters to the Mission’s impact. Digital Engagement & Reputation Management (10%): Support reputation management by monitoring reviews, comments, and mentions across platforms. Assist with social listening through Sprout Social and Google Alerts related to Nashville Rescue Mission and homelessness in Nashville. Monitor social media engagement, respond to comments and messages, and help foster positive, mission-aligned online community interaction. Brand & Campaign Support (10%): Communicate with partner agencies and other promotional vendors. Review marketing materials from partner agencies to ensure brand consistency across email, digital, paid, and direct mail campaigns. Assist in implementing marketing initiatives that include digital, print, and promotional content. Communicate with partner agencies and vendors as needed to support campaigns and content execution. Reporting & Analytics (10%): Monitor performance metrics across social media and email platforms. Prepare monthly reports for the Director of Marketing and Communications, and others as requested. Use insights to inform future content ideas and improvements. Market Research (5%): Identify new and emerging social channels and technologies, and develop strategies to leverage these new opportunities. Monitor social media trends, and suggest modifications to the Mission’s social media strategy based on how well the platform aligns with communications objectives. Other Duties: Support the Director of Marketing and Communications in key strategies and campaigns; support pre-event and post-event digital promotion as needed; assist with light data management tasks as required; perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, or communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 2 years of experience in a related role such as Marketing Coordinator, Social Media Specialist, or Content Specialist. Strong storytelling and copywriting skills with an eye for detail and brand voice. Demonstrated experience creating content for social media and email. Photography experience (Canon and Nikon familiarity preferred). Familiarity with design and content tools such as Canva and Adobe Suite. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently with confidence, initiative, accountability, and critical thinking. Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor, guests, staff, and operational information. Ability to uphold the Mission Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct. Some holiday and/or weekend work may be required for events or content coverage. Adheres to the standards as set forth by CityGate and ECFA. Ability to qualify as a Designated Mission Vehicle driver under NRM insurance policy: Valid driver’s license; Have no more than two moving violations in a 3-year period or more than one accident in a 1-year period; Proof of insurance on personal vehicle (current). Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with Wordpress, Mailchimp, SproutSocial, Canva, and Blackbaud or Virtuous Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms. Basic videography experience, including iPhone video capture. Knowledge in email segmentation. Experience working in nonprofit, ministry, or mission-driven organizations.
