What We Are Seeking AIA - INTERIOR DESIGNER LEVEL I
(3 or more years’ experience) Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, plus three to five years of related experience. Certification as a licensed professional is preferred but not required. Generates architectural concepts for interiors projects such as furniture and equipment planning, special design concepts and requirements, floor plan analysis, condition of building site, personal property, integrated structural components, mechanical and electrical and visual design concepts, including materials. Responsible to carry out these design assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques or design. Normally works through the project to middle point of construction work, then required to follow up with construction team. Works with a senior-level designer on more complex projects.
Responsibilities
Communication and Collaboration: Demonstrates working knowledge of conceptual, schematic, design development construction documentation and construction administration phases on assigned projects.
Maintains and initiates frequent communication with JCJ team members to sustain proper information flow.
Fully participates in designated project meetings, both virtual and in-person. Participates in coordination meetings with the consultant and internal team.
Develops proficiency at written communication in email and virtual communication via JCJ virtual meeting software.
Prepares meeting notes using standard JCJ formats under supervision of Project team leadership.
Maintains an on-going vigilance about self-checking work and conveying questions or concerns to Project team leadership.
Adheres to established project schedules and JCJ conventions for digital file keeping.
Coordinates work with internal JCJ project team and sub-consultants.
Participates in the preparation and delivery of presentations to clients both physically and virtually.
Further refines a portfolio in one market sector.
Demonstrates time management skills required to work on multiple projects of all sizes.
Assist Design Staff with the upkeep of the resource library.
Design, Visualization and Space Planning
Demonstrates creativity in design and the ability to adapt design solutions to a variety of building types.
Integrates interior design with architecture to create a unified statement under the project leadership.
Implements design direction cognizant of construction methods and coordination with engineering disciplines.
Shows knowledge of space planning conventions, human scale and ergonomics, functional organization and three-dimensional implications of planning.
Assists with development of design solutions and selects/ presents schemes to internal and client teams, considering function, price points, lead times and durability.
Demonstrates computer-aided visualization skills to support development and presentation of design concepts; shares knowledge with team members.
Researches manufacturers and selects appropriate colors, finishes and materials with attention to function, client preference, aesthetics and cost; coordinates with team members.
Supports business development by creating presentation collateral including digital or physical finish boards and visual slide-deck presentations.
Selects and presents multiple FF&E schemes and coordinates with project teams.
Maintains awareness of fashion, industry and cultural design trends.
Delineation, Detailing and Documentation
Produces building project documentation from concept through construction documents; assembles data to complete drawings.
Learns to create detail drawings for items such as architectural millwork, furniture case goods, custom furniture, tile and stonework.
Creates Interior Finish lists and Finish location plans and elevations; remains current with JCJ Technical Bulletins.
Produces construction documents under the direction of the Project Architect, using standard conventions.
Adheres to JCJ conventions for Revit/AutoCAD standards, file and drawing organization.
Performs site observation and coordinates with the Project Team.
Performs numeric tasks such as square footage calculations, furniture and device counts, and material quantity take-offs; assembles information into budget formats.
Demonstrates knowledge of Building, ADA and Life/Fire safety codes and how to interpret applicable accessibility and code requirements.
Specifications, Resource Management and Budgeting
Maintains resource materials and data in physical and digital libraries.
Knowledge of Furniture, Fixtures, Equipment and Material costs; ability to create FF&E specifications and location plans and budgets.
Assists in preparation and bid tabulation of FF&E documents; coordinates with JCJ team.
Develops and coordinates Interior Finish lists and tagging with JCJ Specifications team.
Makes financial recommendations to clients; coordinates with 3rd party FF&E procurement companies.
Implements cost management strategies at the direction of Senior Leadership.
Construction Administration
Participates in value engineering exercises and responds to RFIs under direction of Senior Leadership.
Assists in shop drawing, submittal review and file management for construction and FF&E procurement.
Coordinates with construction manager/contractor/procurement client team; attends regular construction phase meetings.
Coordinates with JCJ internal CA team and processes.
Other
Assume special projects and duties as assigned or requested.
Job Requirements and Qualifications Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in design or equivalent work experience.
3+ years’ experience in interior design, design management and design services.
2+ years creating interior design solutions.
Training Requirements (licenses, Programs, Or Certificates)
Professional Registration (preferred but not required).
Advanced Computer and Information Management Skills (AutoCAD, Revit)
