Description The French Library seeks to hire a Development & Donor Relations Officer to be the engine behind a professional, disciplined fundraising program. This role owns the systems, execution, donor services, stewardship logistics, and reporting that allow the Executive Director to focus on patron cultivation, major donor relationships, and strategic fundraising leadership. This is an exciting position for an individual who is eager to cater to and embrace the French Library’s mission and community.

Founded in 1945, the French Library of Boston is a 501(c)3, membership-based organization housed in a beautiful French Revival townhouse in Boston’s historic Back Bay. The French Library has three areas of activity: French language education for students of all ages, from children to adults, based on close affiliation with the internationally renowned Alliances Françaises network; French-themed artistic and cultural activities throughout the year, including the annual Bastille Day Celebration; and a library/médiathèque that houses some 32,000 French-language books, periodicals, and electronic media, making it the largest private collection in the U.S.

Core Responsibilities

Development Operations

Manage donor database/CRM integrity (records, coding, segmentation)

Process gifts and pledges; ensure accurate batching, receipts, and reconciliation support

Own acknowledgments workflow: same-day/48-hour standards, templates, tracking

Maintain a prospect/patron pipeline tracker and next-action reminders

Produce weekly/monthly development reports and dashboards for ED/board

Stewardship & Donor Experience

Implement the Major donors and Patrons retention & renewal framework (touchpoint calendar, invitations, follow-up)

Coordinate board thank-you calls and note-writing (materials, scripts, lists)

Draft donor communications (thank-you, updates, invitations, renewal letters) for ED review

Ensure donors experience consistency, professionalism, and follow-through

Campaign & Midlevel Support

Support year-end giving and key appeal moments (lists, segmentation, execution, results)

Manage midlevel donor program administration ($1K–$9,999): tracking, upgrade flags, stewardship steps

Support monthly giving (set-up, acknowledgments, retention reporting)

Cultivation & Events Logistics

Coordinate logistics for cultivation and fundraising events (registrations, follow-up, lists)

Prepare briefing materials for the ED and board ahead of donor meetings

Track attendance, follow-up actions, and outcomes

Board & Committee Enablement

Prepare board prospecting tools, lists, and follow-up prompts

Provide meeting materials for development committee (pipeline snapshots, action lists)

What this role is NOT

Primary solicitor of major gifts

Owner of overall development strategy

Replacement for ED’s key donor relationships

Qualifications Required

3+ years in nonprofit development operations, donor relations, or advancement

Demonstrated CRM/database fluency (Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, Bloomerang, DonorPerfect, etc.)

Genuine interest in the French Library’s mission and community

Excellent writing and project management

High reliability and discretion

Preferred

Experience supporting major gifts/patron programs

Comfort working with boards and high-touch donors

Cultural/education nonprofit experience

Proficient level of French

Reports To President & Executive Director

Compensation Full-time. Base salary $75,000-$85,000/year, depending on experience + CRM proficiency. Benefits: health and dental coverage, 403(b) retirement plan, term life insurance, paid vacation and sick days, observance of Massachusetts holidays, enrollment in courses offered by the French Library, French Library membership, professional development program. Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
