Overview

Position Summary:

UTHealth Houston’s Office of Public Affairs is seeking a graphic designer to perform and coordinate graphic design functions for projects with university-wide impact. The role supports a wide range of visual work, including marketing collateral, digital creative, and print work. Deliverables include social media visuals, animations, publications, newsletters, reports, logos, signage, brand assets, and more.

Responsibilities

Support brand standards, prepare large annual publications, organize design assets, and collaborate with the branding and creative services team.

Identify internal client needs and consistently produce the desired deliverable.

Monitor and prioritize multiple projects in partnership with the Marketing Coordinator.

Prepare concepts, visuals, layouts, and specifications for internal clients, partners, and vendors.

Deliver production-ready files to associated contacts or vendors.

Ensure concepts and visual designs are approved by partners or internal clients prior to production or publishing.

Ensure artwork meets vendor requirements for production-ready files.

Lead projects from concept to completion as requested, maintaining clear communication with supervision and internal clients/partners.

Check print/press quality or fabrication/production quality at vendor locations or via pre-production samples when needed.

Ensure deliverables meet or exceed internal client expectations and review exceptions with supervision to stay within guidelines.

Provide creative and production guidance or project critique to creative and communications staff within and outside the department.

May lead projects and activities as requested or assigned.

Assist with development, implementation, and education of university brand standards and updates.

Consult with and educate other designers and staff across the enterprise to ensure compliance and understanding.

Collaborate in Human Resources activities of the department related to recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, evaluation, and salary planning.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Certification/Skills:

Graphic Design Training.

Minimum Education:

At least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required, but you may substitute education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.

Minimum Experience:

At least two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in graphic design and visual creative conception, such as art direction, visual, print, and digital design, fabrication and production, and digital publishing and printing supervision.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive:

This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code, and related provisions. The role may involve access to critical infrastructure as defined by law. A foreign adversary definition and related requirements apply as described in policy.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
