Responsibilities

Scout & Originate (External Innovation): Maintain an always-on view of external technology trends across AI/ML, data science, digital health, research tools, and clinical development enablement. Represent BMS externally at demo days, innovation forums, and industry councils. Build trusted relationships with VCs and startups, universities, consortia, incubators, accelerators, and large tech companies. Foster robust supplier relationships, effective governance, and rigorous business case analyses with direct engagement across BI&T, R&D, Finance, Procurement, and Business Development. Assess & Shape: Lead cross-functional diligence (scientific, technical, business) with R&D, Digital/IT, and Commercial colleagues. Frame business cases with clear success metrics, value levers, and strategic fit. Structure collaborations that accelerate internal pipeline progress or open new modalities. Transact & Govern: Partner with Procurement, Finance, Business Development and Legal to negotiate collaborations, in-licensing, platform access, and data-sharing agreements. Develop and execute out-licensing and open-sourcing strategies for internally developed technologies, including software, algorithms, and digital platforms. Work with Procurement and Business Development teams to ensure effective partnership oversight, milestone tracking, and conflict resolution. Communicate, Evangelize & Engage: Publish a quarterly external innovation & technology transfer radar for BMS leadership. Design and host events such as startup demo days, venture roundtables, and innovation fairs that expose BMS colleagues to cutting-edge ideas, founders, and technologies. Create internal forums to showcase innovation from internal teams, startups, academic labs, and external partners to BMS scientists & technologists. Share success stories of both inbound partnerships and outbound technology ventures.

Compensation & Location

Compensation Overview: Cambridge - MA - US: $252,640 - $306,137 Princeton - NJ - US: $229,670 - $278,306 The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee's work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.

Based on eligibility, additional time off for employees may include unlimited paid sick time, up to 2 paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, and military needs, and an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas and New Years Day. All global employees who are actively employed at and paid directly by BMS at the end of the calendar year are eligible to take advantage of the Global Shutdown. Eligibility Disclosure: The summer hours program is for United States (U.S.) office-based employees and may be limited for field sales and manufacturing operations. Contractors, leased workers and other service providers are not eligible to participate.
