Overview
Animal Care and Protective Services is actively seeking a Social Media Marketing Coordinator. This position involves coordinating various activities relating to animal placement and leveraging social media to deliver messages. Schedule will involve flex hours, weekends, and evenings. The work environment includes office, kennel, and field settings with some risks related to handling animals. The City provides benefits including health insurance options, paid holidays, personal leave, and retirement considerations. The City of Jacksonville employees are eligible for Federal Student Loan Forgiveness after 10 years of public service and on-time payments. The role is paraprofessional at a lead worker level with responsibilities for coordinating activities, delivering messages through social media, and assisting with the handling and medical information of animals. The work requires knowledge of applicable laws, techniques, methods, and procedures in animal care and control. Strong communication, persuasiveness, assertiveness, and sensitivity to others are often required to influence behavior and interactions with the public and staff. The work is semi-routine with some latitude to determine the best methods, and some judgment is required in solving problems. Responsibilities
Coordinate various activities and programs relating to animal placement. Coordinate the selection, placement, and transport of animals by pet placement partners. Evaluate applications submitted to the division by pet placement partners for accuracy and completeness. Make recommendations to supervisory and management staff regarding pet placement partner application decisions. Ensure that all necessary paperwork is obtained at the time of animal transfer; ensure contractual terms are met and transfer records are accurately documented. Seek out and recruit new pet placement partners locally and outside of the Jacksonville area. Maintain and routinely update records of pet placement partners approved to accept animal transfers from the division. Maintain computerized records documenting adoptions, animal placement, conversations with animal welfare organizations, and health issues or other topics as required by policy. Work with animal behavior coordinators and veterinary staff to obtain accurate behavior and medical information for pet placement partners. Provide customer assistance and respond to customer, foster volunteer, and pet placement partner questions via phone, email, social media, and MyJax complaints. Enter and retrieve data on animals housed at ACPS. Perform euthanasia as taught by the FACA (Florida Animal Control Association) approved class and in compliance with ACPS euthanasia protocol. Retrieve and place animals in appropriate areas for holding, redemption, transfer, playgroup, medical examination, etc. Collect redemption and adoption fees and maintain records of monies collected; balance daily revenue reports with deposits. Report to work location during emergency circumstances and participate in emergency operations as required. Transport animals to offsite locations. Attend meetings and events as required. Operate standard office equipment and software, and operate a motor vehicle. Use shelter Facebook and Instagram accounts to showcase dogs and cats in need of adoption or special promotion. Work closely with volunteers and staff to delegate and curate animal photos, videos, and biographies. Strategically schedule posts on current social platforms for optimum engagement and build presence on new platforms. Write and edit captions for digital media and in-shelter signage. Brainstorm content ideas and delegate related tasks when appropriate. Engage in dialog with community members and other city departments. Demonstrate proficiency in the City of Jacksonville’s competencies. Perform related work as required. Qualifications
Two (2) years of education and/or experience in customer service or program coordination with at least one year of working in an animal hospital, shelter, or related animal facility. Experience in Microsoft Suite, social media networks, social media marketing, and management tools. Degree in English, Creative Writing, Marketing, Communications, or related field is preferred. Promotional Requirements
All permanent employees who have served one year in the class of Animal Adoption Assistant may apply and meet the open requirements. Licensing/Certification/Registration
Euthanasia Technician Certification must be obtained prior to completion of probation and maintained. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license during employment. Must qualify for, obtain, and maintain a City of Jacksonville public driver certification for employment in this class. Other Requirements
The probation period is six months. This classification performs safety-sensitive functions and is subject to pre-employment, random and other drug/alcohol testing per the City of Jacksonville’s Drug Free Workplace Policy (0401). ACPS is part of the City’s emergency response operations; full-time employees may be required to work during emergencies, including extended hours. A fully completed online application is required.
