
Job Summary:
The Associate in Government Relations will play a vital role in executing a proactive government relations strategy to enhance Wawa's objectives with elected officials at local, regional, state, and federal levels. This individual will focus on advancing the Company's legislative, regulatory, and public policy goals by monitoring relevant policy issues and leveraging relationships effectively to represent Wawa's interests. Principal Duties: Monitor and analyze federal, state, and local legislative issues relevant to Wawa. Review legislation and regulatory activities impacting Wawa's operations, associates, and customers. Draft policy positions and prepare leadership for legislative hearings and voting sessions. Build and maintain relationships with government officials, industry peers, trade associations, and other stakeholders. Represent Wawa in meetings with elected officials, advocating for the Company's policy positions. Develop expertise in various policy areas, including Tax, ESOPS, Fuel, EVs, SNAP, Credit Card Fees, and more. Collaborate with government relations management and business partners to shape Wawa's policy stance. Engage in strategic education and advocacy to promote Wawa's legislative agenda. Manage a multi-state portfolio, tracking and monitoring legislative proposals through research and communications. Maintain relationships with associations and lobbyists in assigned states. Fulfill lobbying compliance requirements, including filing reports and applications as needed. Implement proactive state and local advocacy strategies. Prepare briefing materials for meetings with elected officials in the state portfolio. Coordinate and communicate with internal stakeholders on relevant state and federal issues. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent work experience. 5+ years of experience in Government Relations. Experience with project management and legislation tracking. Proficient in MS Office applications, including Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
