
Overview
Pay range:
$90,000 - $100,000/annum + 10% bonus.
The Indirect Tax Manager is responsible for managing indirect tax return compliance, accounting, and reporting functions, including sales and use, GST, property, and other transactional taxes at the corporate office. This role oversees accurate tax filings, tax accounting, audits, and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions. The position also involves managing and developing tax team members while collaborating with internal stakeholders. The role supports process improvements, tax research, and audit facilitation.
Responsibilities
Manage the preparation, reconciliation, and filing of indirect tax returns including sales/use tax, GST, excise, property, and gross receipts
Reconcile tax workpapers to the general ledger and oversee accuracy of sales tax license registrations related to mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures
Oversee indirect tax accounting, including accruals, true-ups, reconciliations, and month-end and quarter-end close processes
Ensure indirect tax balances are accurately reflected in the general ledger and financial statements
Support disclosure requirements, footnote support, and coordinate with auditors by providing audit documentation and reconciliations
Supervise, mentor, and develop tax team members and oversee month-end checklist completion
Maintain team training documentation and ensure processes are current and properly retained
Facilitate indirect and property tax audits, including correspondence, documentation, and resolution negotiations
Identify process improvement opportunities and support implementation of tax technology solutions
Provide indirect tax guidance and training to finance, legal, IT, and operational teams
Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and assess impacts on business operations and systems
Conduct tax research and special projects as required
Monitor, validate, and manage tax affidavits, sales tax adjustments, exempt projects, and exemption certificates
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
BS/BA in Accounting with four years of accounting curriculum
5-8 years of experience in indirect tax compliance and advisory
2-3 years of managerial experience leading teams
Experience with large ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, or Sage
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel, including large data sets, ranges, and tables
Experience with ETL tools such as Alteryx, Power BI, or Power Pivots (preferred)
Experience with tax software such as Thomson Reuters OneSource or Vertex
Experience with multi-state and local jurisdiction reporting
Background in a large corporate environment or large public accounting firm
Experience with mergers and acquisitions, automated system configurations, and tax compliance
Strong understanding of how tax transactions impact financial statements
Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment and manage changing priorities
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
