Position Snapshot Atwell is seeking a Structural Designer with experience in the Oil and Gas industry. Current projects include oil and natural gas, CO₂, hydrogen, and renewable natural gas (RNG) pipelines and related facilities.
As a Structural Designer at Atwell, you will be responsible for executing and coordinating structural design efforts with a strong understanding of project scope, schedule, key milestones, deliverables, and allocated design hours. You will ensure that all work adheres to Atwell’s quality standards, client specifications, and applicable industry codes while supporting the design process from concept through construction documentation.
This role will primarily involve the design of industrial ductwork, reinforced concrete structures, and structural steel components for pipeline and facility projects. Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor is strongly preferred, along with experience producing detailed construction drawings for industrial and midstream energy infrastructure.
Roles and Responsibilities
Interpret and implement structural design input from the Lead Structural Engineer for oil and gas facilities, including pipelines, compressor stations, terminals, and processing plants
Develop detailed construction documents, including structural plans, sections, and connection details for steel and concrete structures commonly used in oil and gas infrastructure
Revise drawings based on redlines and ensure all affected sheets and disciplines are properly coordinated and updated
Perform periodic field visits to verify existing conditions, collect structural framing measurements, and support as‑built documentation
Effectively manage multiple projects concurrently, maintaining high‑quality deliverables and meeting established deadlines
Maintain, update, and organize structural detail libraries and base files to support consistency, efficiency, and future project use
Job Requirements
Associate’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Drafting & Design Technology, or a related field (preferred)
Strong understanding of construction drawings and structural plan sets, particularly for oil and gas facilities such as pipelines, terminals, and process plants
Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (versions 2021, 2022, or 2023) is required
Minimum of 3 years of experience using AutoCAD and/or CADWorx for industrial structural or piping design
Ability to perform under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced project environment
Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills, and a willingness to learn and grow within a collaborative design team
