Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Business Taxes Administrator (BTA) I, the Business Taxes Compliance Specialist (BTCS) performs moderately complex compliance cases including collection and enforcement activities, which includes conducting field observations, complex compliance investigation reports, identifying unregistered businesses, analyzing sales and excise tax accounts related to cannabis businesses, and users of Point of Sale (POS) systems to determine if responsible parties are underreporting sales. The BTCS ensures compliance with Sales and Use tax and Cannabis Excise tax laws and reporting requirements. Additional responsibilities include conducting investigations and ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and reporting requirements as related to business taxes. Working Arrangements
This position is designated as a mobile worker position and will require the incumbent to spend the majority of their time (fifty percent or more) working at various locations other than their home or office in a single day (CMAP 1014). All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change. Travel to and work at assigned field sites at least fifty percent (50%) of the time, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or overnight travel in various locations statewide. Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California. Per California Budget Act of 2025, all CDTFA salaries are subject to the State of California’s Personal Leave Program. Minimum Requirements
