JOB DESCRIPTION

: Restoration Designer

Reports to

: Director of Design

Status

: Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Location: Orleans, MA or Hanover, MA

Position Summary The

Restoration Designer (RD)

produces documentation for land management programs and restoration projects. The RD ensures that all documentation is conducted within the parameters of the work orders to meet client needs and regulatory requirements, and is consistent with WED’s mission and guiding principles. The RD assists with design guidance and delegation of design deliverables to junior design staff, including the ARD and Design Intern.

Principal Accountabilities

Working under the supervision of the Director of Design, coordinate with WED team to ensure projects are designed and implemented to achieve client goals, meet regulatory requirements, and maintain consistency with WED’s mission statement and guiding principles.

Conduct research, complete thorough and detailed site analysis evaluations, perform associated fieldwork and document field investigations in written, verbal and graphic form.

Accurately draft detailed plans, design documents and drawings in written and graphic form, including Land Management Plans, Restoration Plans, site programming diagrams, illustrative sketches, diagrams, sections, as well as construction sections and details

Research project background and requirements (gather and analyze GIS data, historic land use patterns, deed and regulatory research, and supporting scientific documentation) as needed

Assist Director of Design with permitting strategy

Lead Design team with Grant submissions, RFP/RFQ responses, and Sales design materials

Establish and maintain design department connections, processes, and workflows with Hanover satellite office

Assist in the preparation of cost estimates and proposals

Share responsibility for support and mentorship of junior design staff

Communicate with clients, co-workers, and team partners

Attend local conservation commission or other regulatory meetings with potential of presenting

Keep all project files current and organized under WED filing system

Thoroughly and efficiently gather customer and project information and regularly update the CRM system as appropriate.

Provide administrative/CRM support as needed.

Develop and maintain professional and collaborative relationships with regulatory review agency representatives, including completing formal notifications to regulatory agencies as needed.

Maintain regular project documentation including within Sage CRM program and in all incident reports and safety logs, as needed.

Perform other duties or tasks as needed under the direction of the Director of Design.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Job Requirements

Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Environmental Planning or related field preferred coupled with 1+ year of relevant design experience in ecological restoration, landscape design or related field, or Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Environmental Planning or related field coupled with 3+ years of relevant design experience in ecological restoration, landscape design or related field, or equivalent experience.

Experience with Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, Regulations, and Policies as well as local wetland protection Bylaws and Regulation and local Conservation Commission project review procedures.

Familiarity with landscape construction, ecological restoration, and bioengineering construction.

Knowledge of Cape Cod native plant communities.

Knowledge of invasive plant species and control/management techniques.

Microsoft Office proficiency.

Valid Driver’s License.

Ability to review and comprehend construction plans and details.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to provide leadership and work respectfully as a team with co-workers.

Interpersonal and relationship building skills.

Strategic thinking, planning and time management skills.

Available to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Ability to work outdoors in a variety of adverse weather conditions year-round.

Ability to lift material and/or packages weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.

This job will have exposure to occupational hazards such as tick-borne illnesses, biting and stinging insects, and strenuous outdoor activity in a variety of adverse weather conditions.
