Overview
Position Title : Community & Volunteer Engagement Specialist Organization : Jewish Family Service of San Diego Department : Advancement/ CVE Position Type : Full-Time (37.5+ hours/week), Non-Exempt Work Setting : Fully Onsite Schedule : The typical workweek for this position will include one weekend day, i.e. Sunday-Thursday, with Friday/Saturday as days off Reports To : Associate Director of Community & Volunteer Engagement Specialist Pay Range : $31 - $32/hour Total Compensation : In addition to standard pay, compensation for this position includes: Comprehensive, low-cost healthcare coverage for employees Generous employer 401(k) contributions Employer-covered life insurance Time Away from Work Time off benefits for this position include: Paid vacation time and sick leave 15 paid holidays, including Federal and Jewish holidays (as long as the holiday lands on a normal scheduled work day), and floating holidays 2 Wellness Days to be taken any time during the year to support employees’ mental wellness Position Overview
We are seeking a strategic mission-driven Community & Volunteer Engagement Specialist to be a thought partner in supporting JFS programs by recruiting, onboarding, and engaging volunteers across the organization while ensuring a positive, consistent volunteer experience and maintaining accurate data and compliance records. The role actively promotes volunteer opportunities in the community, represents JFS at events to build meaningful partnerships, and assists with scheduling and tracking in-kind donations. Additionally, the Specialist contributes to departmental operations, communications, administrative needs, and event planning related to volunteer engagement and appreciation. The typical workweek for this position will include one weekend day, i.e. Sunday-Thursday, with Friday/Saturday as days off. Responsibilities
Volunteer Management Recruit, onboard, and provide orientation for volunteers supporting JFS programs and events Train and onboard CVE Coordinators in partnership with current CVE team members Develop and support targeted volunteer recruitment strategies to meet program needs Create and distribute regular volunteer communications, including updates, announcements, and role-specific information Build and maintain strong relationships with JFS program staff to support effective volunteer placement and ensure consistent volunteer experience across programs and locations Update and record changes to volunteer roles and assignments in the JFS volunteer database and on external volunteer platforms Assist with planning and executing volunteer appreciation and stewardship events to acknowledge and retain volunteers Community Engagement and Outreach Present to community groups, service organizations, corporations, and educational institutions about volunteer opportunities and other ways to engage with JFS Represent JFS at community fairs, events, and community meetings to build relationships with community partners and promote JFS services and volunteer opportunities Work scheduled events on evenings and weekends as needed Assist with scheduling and tracking community in kind donations and events Data Management & Administration Lead projects that maintain the volunteer database, including tracking hours, qualifications, compliance documents, and in-kind contributions Work with JFS program staff to ensure monthly volunteer hours are accurately submitted Complete monthly and annual reporting to ensure ongoing compliance with internal and external program requirements Update and maintain information on internal JFS employee sites and platforms Manage administrative tasks, including processing departmental purchases, invoices, and reimbursements Provide administrative support for the Rubenstein Memorial Scholarship as needed Other duties as assigned Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have: At least 2 years of experience with volunteer coordination, community engagement or related fields required Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and work independently Great customer service and interpersonal skills, experience working with donors and volunteers Ability to assimilate information quickly and analyze problems and implement solutions appropriately Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking, and training others Skills/Abilities We’d Like You to Have Social media and marketing tools, i.e. Canva Experience with volunteer database management i.e. Galaxy Digital Experience with various data analytical tools Jewish cultural knowledge Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and to use hands. The employee occasionally is required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, lift or carry up to 50 pounds, and lift overhead up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
