Claims Processor/Customer Service Representative

Process all claims in accordance with departmental timeframes. Also, in accordance with state laws and regulatory guidelines. Provide service to customers via telephone and written communication. Essential duties and responsibilities include: Claims processing, cancellations, disbursements, filing, and surrenders Customer service policy changes, policy loans, address changes, funeral home transfers Problem solving Other duties as assigned Supervisory responsibilities: There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position. Education and/or experience: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous customer service experience required. Language skills: The employee has the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. The employee has the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Math skills: The employee has the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. The employee has the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning ability: The employee has the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. The employee has the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Analytical skills: The employee has the ability to visualize, articulate, and solve both complex and uncomplicated problems and concepts and make decisions that are sensical based on available information. Such skills include demonstration of the ability to apply logical thinking to gathering and analyzing information. Computer skills: To perform this job successfully, the employee must be skilled in use of personal computers, Excel spreadsheets, email, Word documents and 10-key adding machine. Other skills and abilities: Must possess strong organizational skills Effective written and verbal communication skills Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills Self-motivation and initiative to resolve issues independently Customer service experience Strong work ethic Results oriented Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Ability to adjust priorities to meet changing business needs Ability to work in a team environment Customer focused - understands the importance of building and maintaining our customer base Ability to work overtime hours when needed (management approval required) Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to perform data entry for extended periods. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Work environment: The noise level is usually moderate.
