General Summary: The Underwriting Specialist will utilize advanced risk evaluation skills to select and retain profitable business within designated authority limits. This role requires collaboration with sales teams, brokers, and internal partners. You will also have the opportunity to train, develop, and mentor other underwriters, leading initiatives to drive positive changes and profitable outcomes. Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Collaborate with sales and service partners to present the best products and options to meet our clients' needs.

Evaluate and select risks to ensure the profitable acquisition of new cases and retain existing ones.

Conduct high-quality risk assessments aligned with business guidelines and profit targets while identifying trends and making necessary recommendations.

Contribute to developing policies and procedures that support product initiatives.

Exhibit mastery of the Company's product portfolio, sales, implementation, and enrollment processes.

Deliver timely, accurate, and dependable service while cultivating strong relationships with internal and external partners.

Serve as a technical resource for junior underwriters, providing constructive feedback on case decisions within a mentoring framework.

Act as a mentor and coach, offering performance input to management regarding mentees.

Job Specifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant business experience.

Proven expertise as a Senior Underwriter.

In-depth knowledge of product provisions, plan designs, pricing, and contractual benefits.

Excellent technical expertise in risk selection and management.

Demonstrated understanding of both top-line and bottom-line objectives.

Extensive knowledge of sales/distribution processes and market developments.

Strong mentoring and coaching abilities.

Creative problem-solving and analytical skills.

Exceptional communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Highly persuasive with negotiation skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Commitment to quality and personal accountability for results.

The base salary range for this position is: $63,500.00-$120,000.00 Actual pay will be determined based on skills, geographical location, and experience. Unum offers a competitive portfolio of benefits including healthcare (health, vision, dental), insurance (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match of up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution, regardless of personal contributions.
