Position Overview The Orthodox Union (OU) is seeking a strategic, creative, and highly organized Director of Content to lead and oversee all content development and execution across the organization’s platforms. This senior role reports to the Chief Marketing Officer and is responsible for shaping and implementing a comprehensive, organization-wide content strategy that advances the OU’s mission, strengthens brand consistency, and drives engagement across diverse audiences.
The Director of Content will manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team responsible for social media, video, A/V, website, and email. This position requires a big-picture thinker with strong managerial skills, a refined creative eye, and the ability to translate strategy into high-quality, impactful content. The role works in close partnership with the creative team, reflecting the significant overlap between content strategy, storytelling, and creative execution.
Responsibilities Strategy & Leadership
Develop and own a comprehensive, integrated content strategy aligned with the OU’s organizational goals, brand framework, and communications priorities.
Serve as the senior content lead, ensuring consistency of voice, tone, and messaging across all platforms and channels.
Translate high-level organizational objectives into clear content priorities, editorial calendars, and platform-specific strategies.
Proactively identify opportunities for innovation, growth, and new content formats to increase reach, relevance, and impact.
Team Management & Collaboration
Lead, manage, and mentor content staff across social media, video and A/V, website, and email/e-newsletter functions.
Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture that values creativity, accountability, and continuous growth.
Work closely with the creative team to ensure seamless coordination between content strategy, design, and production.
Partner with internal stakeholders across departments to plan, prioritize, and deliver content that supports programmatic and organizational needs.
Content Oversight & Execution
Oversee the planning, creation, editing, and distribution of content across all platforms, ensuring quality, accuracy, and alignment with strategy.
Provide strategic leadership for the OU’s website and email ecosystem, including content architecture, user journeys, and ongoing optimization.
Guide website and email strategy to improve engagement, usability, and conversion, ensuring content is current, clear, and mission-aligned.
Ensure content is audience-centered, data-informed, and optimized for platform-specific best practices.
Establish workflows, processes, and standards that improve efficiency, scalability, and cross-team alignment.
Planning, Analytics & Optimization
Lead annual and quarterly content planning processes, including editorial calendars and campaign alignment.
Oversee website and email optimization efforts, using analytics, testing, and performance insights to refine content and user experience continuously.
Apply SEO best practices across digital content, including keyword strategy, on-page optimization, and collaboration with web and content teams to improve discoverability and search performance.
Use performance data and insights to evaluate content effectiveness and refine strategy over time.
Collaborate with marketing and communications leadership to align content efforts with broader campaigns and initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
5–10 years of relevant experience in content, marketing, or communications, with demonstrated growth in strategic and managerial leadership.
Significant experience leading content strategy and managing teams within a marketing or communications environment.
Demonstrated experience developing and optimizing website and email content strategies.
Working knowledge of SEO principles and best practices, including content optimization and performance measurement.
Proven ability to think strategically while also overseeing day-to-day execution across multiple platforms.
Strong managerial and leadership skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen editorial eye.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proactive, innovative mindset with the ability to anticipate needs and propose solutions.
Collaborative, team-oriented approach with comfort working across disciplines and departments.
Salary & Benefits The salary range for this position is $135,000 - $165,000, commensurate with experience.
