Our firm has been retained by a respected and mission-driven public accounting firm to find a

Director of Government Auditing . This is a high-impact leadership role designed for a seasoned CPA who excels in Audit & Assurance (A&A) and enjoys serving as a trusted advisor to governmental entities.

This unique position offers a

specialized seasonal schedule : you will lead engagements full-time from

June through January . From February through May, your primary responsibility is maintaining CPE requirements (covered by the firm), with no requirement to report on-site. This role is perfect for a technical expert who values a collaborative environment and a non-traditional, flexible annual calendar.

Key Responsibilities:

Engagement Oversight:

Lead and oversee financial statement audits for government entities from planning through completion.

Compliance Management:

Manage and review single audits, ensuring strict adherence to all federal and state requirements and firm methodologies.

Client Advisory:

Serve as the primary point of contact for government clients, building long-term relationships and providing strategic guidance.

Team Leadership:

Provide technical mentorship and review the work of audit staff and senior team members to ensure quality and professional development.

Workflow Optimization:

Collaborate with firm leadership to improve audit efficiencies and enforce firm-wide quality standards.

Technical Execution:

Utilize audit software (preferred experience with CCH ProSystem fx Engagement) to support high-quality delivery.

Additional Information

Travel:

Hybrid flexibility is available, but proximity to the Oakland, MD area is required for audit cycles.

Schedule Note:

While this is a yearly salaried position, the core workload is concentrated between June and January.

Credentials:

Active

CPA license

is strictly required.

Experience:

6–8 years of recent experience in

Public Accounting .

Technical Expertise:

Robust background in

Audit & Assurance (A&A) , specifically related to financial statement preparation and

single audits .

Leadership:

Demonstrated experience leading or reviewing complex governmental audits and managing audit teams.

Location:

Ability to work in a hybrid capacity in or near

Oakland, Maryland .

Eligibility:

No visa sponsorship is available for this role.

Preferred Skills:

Proficiency with

CCH ProSystem fx Engagement .

Strong collaborative leadership style and excellent client-facing communication skills.

Competitive yearly salary (approx. $120K, negotiable based on experience).

Relocation:

Limited relocation assistance (moving expenses) may be offered for the right candidate.
