is a Not-for-Profit organization that aims to serve immigrant populations of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. MAFS is now a large family-run organization that has been helping the community for over 33 years. The prospective employee would need to have experience with social service programs or related field and be willing to wear multiple hats. In addition, the prospective employee should be able to work autonomously, show initiative and do lots of follow-through.
Job Title and Definition Public Benefits and Immigration Coordinator who serves as the primary point of contact for clients seeking public benefits and immigration services and is responsible for managing an assigned workload.
Primary responsibilities
Eligibility assessment and investigation skills to determine eligibility and/or on-going maintenance of state/federal benefits and immigration (Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, SSI, SNAP, Citizenship, Family Petition, Green Card and Passport Renewals and others).
Knowledge of public benefits and immigration laws, rules, regulations and application process including, requirements, approvals, appeals and renewals.
Explains program requirements and services available and able to manage and maintain a caseload independently.
Convey interest and concern to callers requesting information or assistance with problems related to the program. Work with clients in crisis.
Works within timeframes and deadlines to submit accurate grant related reports as dictated by program requirements.
Actively participates in outreach activities to increase program participants and travels as necessary between program sites and with clients to various public benefit/immigration offices as required.
Actively participate in team meetings, regular performance reviews and training opportunities.
Requirements
1-3 years' work experience in public benefits and/or immigration preferably in state offices like DHS; non-profits; private organizations or other relevant places.
College or other equivalent degree
Excellent computer proficiency MS Office- Word, Excel; Outlook
Detail-oriented with proven ability to collect, organize and analyze detailed program, statistical, demographic data and present the results in a clear and concise manner.
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills with demonstrated ability to prepare written materials and reports.
Understanding of social services and familiarity with the aging network and aging issues.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with a high degree of detail.
Understanding of grant reporting.
