Position Summary / Objective To further the mission of Girl Scout camp by serving as the primary team member responsible for managing the mental and emotional health needs of campers and occasionally staff. This includes assisting campers in moments of crisis, reasoning with campers who may need extra support, monitoring and assessing camper behaviors, and advising the Director team on appropriate actions to take.

Essential Functions

Be on-call for camper mental health needs and meet with campers who are struggling and need extra support.

Help calm and regulate campers or staff who might be in crisis.

Work closely with the Health Director, Camp Director, and Assistant Director.

Model positive attitudes and behaviors for campers and staff.

Enforce camp rules and communicate them positively and effectively.

Apply youth development principles to empower campers, embrace diversity, and build connections.

Maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries with campers and staff of all ages and diverse backgrounds.

Advise staff when a camper or other staff member may need services beyond Camp Linden’s capacity, and consult with the Camp Director/Assistant Director for dismissal or resource referral.

Create agreements or intervention plans when warranted and when camp staff decide a child should not remain at camp.

Perform additional functions as requested by camp leadership.

Ensure staff and camper health paperwork is current and on file.

Participate in scheduled camp activities and assist other staff members.

Serve on the camp leadership team to plan and supervise activities and staff training.

Support counseling staff with daily care and supervision of campers.

Take initiative to ensure everyone enjoys a great summer at camp.

Other duties as assigned, including crisis management, risk management, conflict resolution, communal living, leadership, camper‑focused initiatives, and flexibility.

Education and Experience

21 years old or older.

Licensed or professionally studying in social work, psychology, counseling, family therapy, or a similar field (no Michigan licensing required).

Previous experience working with children of all ages in crisis settings; camp setting preferred.

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to drive to off‑camp health providers (not to transport campers).

Comfortable contacting parents about a child’s health status via phone or email.

Knowledge of community health resources.

Must Be a Member of Girl Scouts

Believe in and be able to speak with conviction about the mission and values of Girl Scouts.

Agree to subscribe to the principles expressed in the Promise and Law and be aware of the needs of youth in a pluralistic society.

Pass state and national background checks.

Current adult and pediatric first aid/CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain it.

Working at Camp Camp Linden is a magical overnight camp where staff supervise campers continuously. Camp life includes:

A communal living situation with constant social interaction.

Active outdoor activities such as sports, equestrian, swimming, boating, rock climbing, archery, low‑rope courses, and teamwork‑focused group activities.

Three daily meals in a dining hall with up to 150 people, creating a busy, noisy environment.

A screen‑free work environment; campers cannot use devices or wear headphones outside their unit.

Few moments of alone time; the property spans over 400 acres, requiring comfortable walking long distances.

Flexible schedule (Sunday–Friday, with occasional Saturdays) that may change due to weather or other circumstances.

Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Room and board.

$80 per day (position requires a 6‑day workweek).
