
Position Title: Supported Residential Service Specialist
Position Status: Hourly / Non Exempt
PAY STRUCTURE: $17-$20 per hour (based on experience, education, bilingual skills & willingness to learn)
REPORT To: Supported Residential Service Coordinator
Summary Description The Supported Residential Service Specialist provides one-on-one, community-based support to adults with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (IDD) in their homes and local communities. This role focuses on teaching independent living skills through habilitative programming while promoting dignity, choice, safety, and meaningful community participation. Staff work independently in a 1:1 setting while maintaining strong communication with supervisors, guardians, and the support team. Services are delivered in compliance with Nebraska DHHS regulations governing HCBS waiver and Supported Residential Services.
Essential Functions
Direct Support & Skill Development
Provide individualized (1:1) support in home and community settings
Implement 1–2 habilitative programs focused on independence (training provided)
Teach daily living skills including cleaning, cooking, laundry, routines, and organization
Assist with transportation, appointments, scheduling, and medication pick-up as appropriate
Support shopping, budgeting, and basic money-management skills
Encourage community involvement, social engagement, and inclusive experiences
Promote choice, self-advocacy, dignity, and respect at all times
Documentation & Compliance
Complete accurate, timely documentation using agency-approved electronic systems (including EVV)
Track progress toward habilitative goals and communicate concerns or changes to supervisors
Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, mandated reporting laws, and agency policies
Deliver services in accordance with applicable Nebraska Administrative Code requirements
Communication & Teamwork
Communicate professionally with supervisors, guardians, and team members
Participate in required training, meetings, and supervision
Follow individualized service plans, safety guidelines, and support strategies
Quality & Safety Assurance Job Functions
Conducts audits on documentation to ensure client progress and safety
Participates in a 24/7 on‑call rotation to support crisis response involving individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
Ensures timely reporting of critical incidents in accordance with mandated reporter laws and § Neb. Rev. Stat. requirements.
Informs the DD-Operations Director or COO of important issues concerning the clients and family operations.
Qualifications Requirements
Minimum age 19
High school diploma or GED
Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and current auto insurance
Ability to pass state and national background checks
Preferred
1–2 years of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities (not required; training provided)
Experience working independently in home and community settings
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
Ability to navigate stairs and varied community environments
Frequent local travel within assigned Nebraska service areas
Flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings, and weekends
Ability to sit, stand, walk, drive, and use mobile devices for extended periods
