Job Summary

The Employee Relations Manager is a senior HR leader and strategic partner to executive leadership, responsible for overseeing the Employee Relations (ER) function and ensuring a consistent, fair, and legally compliant workplace. This role leads complex employee relations matters, employment law compliance, and risk mitigation initiatives while supporting broader human resources strategies aligned with organizational goals.

The Employee Relations Manager plays a critical role in promoting ethical practices, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness by developing ER policies, compliance programs, and leadership training. This position partners closely with senior leaders to strengthen workplace culture, reduce risk, and support long-term business success.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & Workplace Leadership Lead and manage the Employee Relations function, ensuring consistent application of HR policies and employee relations best practices Serve as the escalation point for complex and sensitive employee relations cases, including workplace investigations, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and performance issues Provide strategic coaching and guidance to managers and leaders on employee relations, performance management, and corrective action Analyze employee relations trends, complaints, and metrics to identify risk areas and recommend proactive solutions Develop, update, and implement employee relations policies and procedures that support an inclusive, high-performance workplace Partner with senior leadership on initiatives to improve employee engagement, retention, and organizational culture Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEO, OSHA, and applicable state regulations Develop and oversee HR compliance programs, including policies, training, audits, and risk assessments Proactively identify employee relations and compliance risks and implement mitigation strategies to reduce legal and reputational exposure Monitor regulatory changes and update HR policies, practices, and training programs accordingly Prepare and present compliance reports, audits, and workforce metrics to executive leadership Training & Leadership Development

Design and deliver training on employment law, employee relations, compliance, leadership effectiveness, and workplace investigations Equip managers with the knowledge and tools needed to address employee relations issues confidently and consistently Strategic Human Resources Leadership

Support the Human Resources Director in translating business objectives into HR strategies and operational plans Contribute to HR initiatives including talent management, succession planning, organizational development, performance management, compensation, benefits, and training Collaborate with executive leadership on workforce planning, change management, and long-term HR strategy Reporting & Documentation

Maintain accurate, confidential documentation related to employee relations cases, investigations, and compliance activities Generate regular HR, employee relations, and compliance reports for leadership review Ensure proper recordkeeping and data integrity within HRIS systems Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, Law, or a related field required Master's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred Experience

15+ years of progressive human resources experience 5-7 years of HR leadership or people management experience Demonstrated expertise leading an Employee Relations function and managing complex ER and compliance matters Experience working in a union environment preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Expert knowledge of employment law, employee relations, and HR compliance Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism Proven ability to influence and partner with leaders at all organizational levels Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office Self-directed, detail-oriented, and collaborative team contributor
