
Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Estimator with General Contractor experience to join our team and play a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of construction projects from inception to completion. Your role will include estimating commercial building projects, preparing cost estimates, and analyzing project budgets using construction plans and industry experience to achieve company financial goals and mission as related to preconstruction.

Our ideal candidate will have:
A bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
At least ten years of experience in the commercial construction industry
Experience frequently estimating projects up to $15M in size in sectors such as healthcare, financial, and light industrial with larger projects estimated occasionally
The ability to manage more than two projects simultaneously and balance workload in a fast‑paced environment
Strong problem‑solving, communication, and interpersonal skills with excellent time‑management
Proficiency in project estimation software, MS Office, and blueprint reading
Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards
Proactive, results‑oriented decision‑making abilities
A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to various job sites
Requirements
Preferred BS Degree in Building Construction Management or a similar major
Knowledge of estimating/managing commercial construction projects
Ready to travel for pre‑bid site visits, training, seminars, task team meetings, etc.
Demonstrated expanding knowledge of construction details
Strong self‑organizational skills and strong verbal and written communication skills
Integrity, support for company values, and focus on meeting customer expectations
Responsibilities
Prepare and complete forecasts of project costs by reviewing drawings and specifications, gathering details, compiling data, and attending site visits before the estimate is due for submission, including CSI division breakdowns and written assumptions/clarifications documents
Consider raw materials, labor, equipment, tools, and transportation for estimations
Determine necessary resources for projects based on cost estimates and budgetary constraints
Analyze project schedules to estimate completion times
Develop and publish complete bid packages for trade partners/vendors, including scopes of work, alternates, allowances, breakouts, etc.
Qualify trade partner/vendor bids and level costs as needed for a complete scope of work
Review costs both internally and externally to ensure client satisfaction and ultimately secure project awards
Lead estimating efforts for traditional Design‑bid‑build projects, including hard bids and GC and fee negotiations
Assist with mentoring and development of interns, coordinators, and assistant estimators
Participate in professional organizations such as Associated Builders and Contractors
Physical Demands
The individual typically works in an office environment using a computer, telephone, and other office equipment
Regularly required to sit, talk, or hear (70% sitting, 15% walking, 15% standing)
Frequent use of repetitive hand motion, handling, or feeling, and standing, walking, reaching, bending or lifting up to 20 pounds
Must be able to use stairs for fire drills and emergencies; elevator access may not always be available
Work Environment The noise level in the work environment is typical of an office. Individuals may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
