GD Resources is seeking a qualified Catholic Mass Music Director/Musician

to provide musical leadership for the 0900 Sunday Catholic Mass at Langley Air Force Base Chapel. This position supports one of the largest and most dynamic Catholic chapel programs in the U.S. Air Force and requires strong musicianship, liturgical knowledge, and the ability to collaborate within a structured military environment. This is a

contract position

supporting the Catholic worship community through instrumental accompaniment, vocal leadership, choir direction, rehearsal planning, and liturgical coordination in close partnership with the Catholic Priest/Chaplain and chapel staff. Key Responsibilities

Liturgical Music Leadership

Plan, select, and prepare liturgically appropriate music in accordance with Catholic liturgical guidelines and priest approval

Lead congregational singing and provide instrumental accompaniment during Mass

Direct and accompany choirs, cantors, and instrumentalists

Identify, train, and mentor cantors and choir members

Support reverent, prayerful, and participatory worship

Rehearsals & Coordination

Schedule and conduct rehearsals for choirs and musicians (minimum 60 minutes, not immediately before Mass)

Observe a minimum of 30 minutes of sacred silence prior to Mass

Maintain effective communication with clergy, chapel staff, choir members, and musicians

Attend quarterly or additional liturgical planning meetings as requested

Musical Resources & Compliance

Ensure compliance with copyright and licensing requirements (OneLicense®, CCLI, and public domain music)

Accurately file required licensing reports

Forecast and order music and resources during the USAF budgeting cycle in coordination with chapel staff

Operate and manage sound system needs for services

Program Development

Recruit and organize volunteer choir members, cantors, and instrumentalists

With prior approval, coordinate additional musicians or instruments for special services using Chapel Tithes and Offerings Funds

Support special Masses and services (Holy Days of Obligation, funerals, etc.)

Professional & Administrative Responsibilities

Adhere to chapel operating procedures and all base health, safety, and security guidelines

Safeguard government property and equipment

Maintain confidentiality and comply with Privacy Act requirements

Coordinate qualified substitutes (with advance approval) when unavailable

Schedule & Time Commitment

Weekly 0900 Sunday Mass

Weekly rehearsals

Approximately 124 service units annually, including: 52 regular Masses

52 rehearsals

10 special Masses/services

10 special rehearsals

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music

or

equivalent experience in Catholic liturgical music

Ability to read, sight-read, teach, and perform sacred music

Proficiency as an accompanist (organ or keyboard) for Catholic liturgy

Demonstrated ability to lead congregational singing

Experience recruiting, organizing, and directing volunteer choirs and musicians

Ability to collaborate with clergy and chapel staff

Familiarity with military protocol and diverse worship communities

Professional appearance and demeanor appropriate to Catholic liturgy

Preferred Qualifications

Experience playing a pipe organ, including historic instruments

Proficiency in Gregorian Chant and polyphonic sacred music

Prior experience in a Catholic parish or military chapel setting

Evaluation & Audition Process

Factor 3 – Audition / Interview

Qualified offerors will be required to complete an audition and interview. Audition Requirements: Perform and sing

two sacred musical selections : One selection of the offeror’s choice

One selection provided by the Chapel staff

Demonstrate: Vocal and instrumental proficiency

Sight-reading skills

Evaluation Criteria: Musical performance (playing and singing)

Sight-reading ability

Overall suitability for Catholic liturgical leadership

Security Requirements

Successful completion of background checks (NACI and criminal history checks)

Completion of VIRTUS training prior to beginning work

Ability to obtain and maintain base access credentials

Compliance with all Joint Base Langley–Eustis security regulations
