As a

Senior SEO Manager,

you will be responsible for shaping and executing the organic search strategy across a large, complex portfolio of websites. You will own the performance of assigned properties end-to-end, ensuring that the target audience can easily discover, engage with, and convert on their sites through best‑class SEO and emerging Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) practices.

You will lead a team of SEO professionals, partner closely with cross‑functional stakeholders, and build scalable frameworks that elevate organic performance across 70+ partner sites. This role combines strategic leadership, hands‑on execution, technical expertise, and a strong focus on AI‑driven and generative search environments. Your work will directly impact organic visibility, qualified lead volume, applications, and enrollments.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Leadership – Own the SEO and AEO strategy for a portfolio of university partner sites, aligning roadmaps with enterprise‑level goals and revenue targets.

Project Management – Lead planning, prioritization, and day‑to‑day execution of SEO initiatives, ensuring on‑time delivery, clear communication, and alignment with key stakeholders.

On‑Page Optimization & Content Strategy – Conduct comprehensive content audits to identify optimization, refresh, consolidation, and pruning opportunities. Collaborate with Content teams to define and execute topic cluster strategies, editorial briefs, and content roadmaps that align with real search demand.

AI & AEO Optimization – Implement and refine tactics to increase visibility within AI overviews, generative engines, and answer‑focused experiences, including entity optimization, structured data, content enhancements, and information architecture improvements.

Technical SEO & Site Health – Lead technical diagnostics and remediation efforts across site architecture, crawlability, indexation, Core Web Vitals, internal linking, and schema markup, partnering closely with MarTech, UX, and development teams.

Performance Measurement & Insights – Build and maintain robust reporting frameworks that monitor visibility, traffic, engagement, lead quality, and conversion funnels. Translate complex data into clear, prioritized recommendations and narratives for senior leadership.

Team Management & Coaching – Manage and mentor SEO managers and specialists. Set expectations, review work quality, provide constructive feedback, and support career development and skills growth.

Process & Workflow Improvement – Standardize SEO and AEO processes, playbooks, and templates. Introduce AI‑enabled workflows to streamline research, analysis, and reporting, improving consistency and speed of execution.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration – Partner with Content, UX, CRO, Paid Media, and Analytics teams to create integrated optimization strategies that enhance discoverability, user experience, and conversion rates.

Innovation & Thought Leadership – Stay on top of search, AI, and platform changes. Proactively test new approaches and share learnings to cultivate a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

6–8 years of experience driving organic performance in enterprise, agency, or multi‑site environments, with a proven track record of improving organic traffic, visibility, and conversion.

3+ years of people management or team lead experience, including setting priorities, coaching team members, and overseeing quality of deliverables.

Demonstrated expertise across core SEO disciplines: keyword research, content strategy, on‑page optimization, technical SEO, and performance measurement.

Strong analytical skills with experience turning complex data into clear, actionable recommendations and business‑aligned roadmaps.

Fluency with major SEO tools and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Search Console, Google Analytics/GA4, enterprise SEO platforms, crawlers, and dashboarding tools).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to and influence cross‑functional and senior stakeholders.

Experience leading SEO initiatives for complex site architectures, multi‑domain or multi‑brand portfolios.

Familiarity with AI‑driven search and answer‑based experiences, and a strong interest in evolving SEO strategies for generative search environments.

Experience using AI tools to enhance or automate aspects of SEO research, analysis, and reporting is strongly preferred.

Background in complex, highly regulated, or multi‑stakeholder industries is a plus.
