Commercial Card Solutions Consultant is responsible for originating, advancing, and closing new payables business through proactive prospecting, consultative engagement, and deep subject matter expertise across B2B payment solutions. This role serves as the primary advisor and execution lead for AP and payables opportunities, including Virtual Payables, Commercial Cards, Comprehensive Payables, and AP Automation—partnering closely with Relationship Management, Treasury Sales, Product, and leadership to drive revenue growth and deepen client penetration. This role requires advanced knowledge of payments, treasury, commercial card, and AP workflows, along with the ability to operate within a highly matrixed banking environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
Originate, advance, and close payables mandates across mid-market and enterprise clients through proactive prospecting, coverage coordination, and solution-led engagement.
Lead formal sales processes including needs discovery, solution design, demos, pricing, RFP/RFI responses, and negotiations through contract execution.
Influence senior buyers across finance, treasury, procurement, shared services, and C‑suite to drive mandated outcomes and strategic adoption.
Convert client pain points into differentiated solution strategies articulating operational, financial, and working capital benefits.
Develop business cases, competitive positioning plans, pricing models, and commercial proposals aligned to revenue and profitability goals.
Maintain SME-level fluency across Commercial Card, Virtual Payables, Comprehensive Payables, AP Automation, ERP/AP connectivity, supplier enablement, and B2B payment economics.
Stay current on competitive dynamics, industry innovations, regulatory considerations, and platform enhancements impacting AP and B2B payments.
Act as voice of the client to Product partners to inform roadmap evolution, commercialization efforts, and market positioning.
Partner cross-functionally with Relationship Management, Treasury Sales, Product, Marketing, Implementation, Operations, and Legal to orchestrate deal execution and coverage strategy.
Deliver internal training and enablement to expand platform awareness, drive adoption, and elevate competitive credibility.
Represent the bank at industry conferences, client forums, and events to generate pipeline and expand brand presence.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of experience in commercial cards, virtual payables, treasury, AP automation, or B2B payments within a bank, financial institution, or payments provider.
5+ years of experience with ERP/AP workflows, supplier enablement, platform integrations (API/file), and working capital considerations.
Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong payments industry expertise supporting complex client design sessions and integration discussions.
Exceptional executive-level presentation skills and ability to translate client needs into mandated business through solution-based selling.
Advanced commercial negotiation skills with the ability to articulate financial, operational, and working capital benefits.
Strong writing and analytical abilities supporting RFP/RFI responses, executive materials, pricing logic, and ROI/business case development.
Demonstrated success operating within highly matrixed, fast-paced, and complex banking structures.
Proven enterprise sales and deal execution experience with senior stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to consult and influence CFO, Treasurer, Controller, Procurement, and Shared Services leaders.
Proficiency with CRM and productivity platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Microsoft Office).
Ability to travel 30–50%.
