
We are seeking a Lead/Senior Estimator to support heavy highway, asphalt, and paving pursuits across
Massachusetts and New Hampshire . This role will lead estimating efforts on DOT-driven infrastructure work, producing accurate, competitive bids while collaborating closely with operations and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the full estimating lifecycle for DOT heavy civil projects (asphalt/paving + heavy highway).
Review bid documents, plans, specifications, addenda, and contract requirements.
Develop detailed quantity takeoffs, cost models, and pricing strategies.
Solicit, analyze, and level subcontractor and supplier quotes.
Build and present complete bid proposals including scope clarifications, inclusions/exclusions, and risk assumptions.
Collaborate with project management and field leadership on means/methods, schedules, production rates, and constructability.
Identify risk items and opportunities (phasing, traffic control, materials, equipment, logistics).
Maintain organized bid files and support smooth handoff to operations after award.
Mentor/support junior estimators as needed and help improve estimating processes.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of estimating experience
in heavy civil construction (10+ years preferred).
DOT estimating experience
specifically involving
asphalt & paving and heavy highway
work.
Strong understanding of typical DOT bid items, traffic control, phasing, and compliance requirements.
Proficiency with estimating workflows (takeoffs, vendor/sub pricing, bid assembly).
Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with internal teams and external partners.
Preferred Qualifications
MassDOT estimating experience
strongly preferred.
Experience leading bids independently and/or mentoring other estimators.
