Generative AI Intern – Summer Intern 2026
The Company
Munich Re America Services (MRAS) is a shared service organization that delivers services to all Munich Re US P&C Companies and other group entities.
The Opportunity The intern will gain full‑stack AI engineering experience across prompt optimization, LLM integration, testing, debugging, and AWS deployment. Working directly with underwriting teams provides real‑world context for business impact, while infrastructure work builds cloud‑native development skills. This exposure across product, AI, and infrastructure creates a well‑rounded engineer who understands how to build and deploy AI systems at scale.
We are seeking a strong candidate with demonstrated understanding of AI fundamentals, particularly around Large Language Models and generative AI. This foundational knowledge will directly elevate their impact in day‑to‑day duties, enabling them to make informed decisions about prompt engineering strategies, troubleshoot LLM behavior effectively, and contribute meaningfully to infrastructure decisions. A candidate who understands how models like ChatGPT and Claude work will be better equipped to optimize our summarization systems and anticipate challenges in production. This is a high‑ownership role where AI literacy translates directly into better outcomes for our underwriters and the business.
Responsibilities
Develop and refine prompts for life insurance application and claims summarization to improve accuracy and relevance for underwriters
Write and execute tests to validate AI model outputs, ensuring summaries meet quality standards
Debug issues in LLM integrations and identify performance bottlenecks
Assist with deploying AI features to AWS environments and managing infrastructure updates
