
The VDC Director is responsible for defining and leading Skanska's enterprise digital construction delivery strategy across complex building portfolios. This role establishes governance, standards, and data frameworks that enable model-driven planning, coordination, cost and schedule integration, and reliable project execution from preconstruction through turnover. Operating as a senior partner to operations, project controls, and commercial leadership, the VDC Director drives consistent delivery outcomes, scales emerging VDC technologies, and builds organizational capability to support safety, quality, sustainability, and long-term value creation.
Duties and Responsibilities
:
Define and champion enterprise-level VDC strategy, including BIM execution frameworks, standards, LOD definitions, naming conventions, and data exchange protocols to ensure consistency across projects and portfolios.
Oversee federated model development and multidisciplinary coordination practices, institutionalizing clash detection/resolution workflows and driving issues to timely closure to reduce rework.
Integrate model data with schedule (4D), cost (5D), and project controls at the portfolio level to support planning, pull planning, forecasting, and executive decision-making.
Lead enterprise initiatives to enable and scale model-based estimating, procurement, prefabrication, and offsite strategies in coordination with estimating leadership, trade partners, and fabrication vendors.
Establish and govern model QA/QC, model health audits, version control, and data integrity policies to meet owner, contract, and regulatory requirements.
Sponsor and scale reality capture programs (laser scanning, photogrammetry) and model validation processes to standardize as-built verification and improve turnover accuracy.
Translate strategic model outputs into field delivery standards-installation sequencing, logistics frameworks, quantity validation, shop drawing support, and as-built capture-to improve installation accuracy and site productivity.
Build, mentor, and develop VDC leadership and technical teams; set staffing strategies, resource plans, and succession pipelines to elevate capability and consistency across projects.
Define enterprise data schemas, interoperability requirements, and reporting standards to enable consistent, model-driven workflows and analytics across functions.
Collaborate with IT and digital innovation teams to evaluate, pilot, and deploy new technologies (cloud collaboration platforms, automation scripts, digital twin frameworks, IoT integrations).
Track and report portfolio VDC KPIs and model health metrics; prepare executive summaries and client-facing insights that demonstrate measurable impacts on safety, schedule, cost, and sustainability.
Knowledge of Reality Capture technology including 360 cameras, web cameras, LiDAR, and drone capture to support digital project delivery requirements to reflect the built environment.Develop office-based budgets and staffing plans to support VDC and technology adoption for appropriate use on projects.Partner with senior operations, project controls, and design to embed VDC into risk and opportunity management, schedule and cost control, and enterprise delivery standards.
Support pursuits and preconstruction: develop VDC narratives, constructability visualizations, risk mitigation plans, and resource estimates for proposals.
Partner with individual Project Team leadership to define VDC goals for new projects and align resource requirements and strategies. Monitor progress during project life cycles to achieve goals.
Support the responsible adoption of technologies like AI that can be applied to the construction industry to improve efficiency, support decision making, and mitigate risk.

Education and Experience:
Required Qualifications:
10+ years of experience with VDC in construction
10+ years of progressive VDC/BIM experience with several years in leadership or management roles overseeing multiple projects or teams.
10+ years' experience in BIM authoring with Autodesk Revit Architecture, Structure and MEP. Experience with other authoring platforms such as ArchiCAD, Tekla, AutoCAD, Microstation, Autodesk Fabrication, Autodesk Inventor, CAD-Duct and related tools is desirable.
10+ years' experience in Autodesk Navisworks for construction analyses such as coordination and clash prevention, quantity takeoff and 4D simulation is required. Experience with other BIM analysis and construction management tools such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (formerly BIM360), Synchro, Solibri, Tekla CM, etc., is also desirable.
Proven experience implementing and governing BIM Execution Plans, standards, LOD definitions, naming conventions, and data exchange protocols across projects or portfolios.
4+ years' experience reading drawings, specifications, building codes, and other technical products and material specifications, as well as interpret and manage VDC contractual obligations and responsibilities.
Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or a related field or 8 years equivalent experience plus minimum 10 years prior relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
A thorough understanding of common building systems as well as related means and methods.
Expertise with construction coordination processes is strongly preferred
Knowledge of Construction Management software tools such as Procore, Autocad, Revit, Sage Estimating, On-Screen Takeoff or equivalents.

Advanced Knowledge of Industry terminology

The role requires visual acuity-including near and far vision, color perception, and depth perception-for reviewing plans and evaluating field conditions. While physical demands are moderate, you should be comfortable performing occasional bending, kneeling, and reaching, as well as lifting and carrying materials/equipment up to 40 pounds when needed.
