Who You Are A successful candidate will be deeply versed — or a curious, quick study — in the workings of the California Legislature, state agencies and governor's office, who enjoys being in the weeds on policy and can translate them for a broader audience.

Edit our must‑read daily newsletter geared toward policymakers and industry figures, as well as a steady stream of stories.

What You’ll Need

Strong editing and writing skills, with a track record of delivering smart, sophisticated stories that drive the conversation

An ability to envision and execute a clear plan for coverage

An ability to deliver on deadline and on longer‑term enterprise

A commitment to delivering exclusive coverage for subscribers

Enthusiasm for guiding reporters to do their best work

A desire to collaborate

Previous editing experience is preferred, but not required for candidates with deep knowledge of the subject matter

The pay range for this position is $130,000–$150,000. Final salary will be based on experience and qualifications.
