Ropes Course Specialist

The Minnesota JCC seeks seasonal Ropes Course Specialists for the 2026 summer camp season. Camp Specialists are talented people who share their special skills or expertise in their program area with the camp community by planning and leading camp programming. The Ropes Course Specialist will be responsible for creating exciting, age appropriate, safe, and welcoming outdoor adventure programming for all campers at camp. The specialist will complete program forms detailing the activities they will be running each week with the campers. They will be responsible for submitting supplies requests, maintaining camp equipment used as part of programming, and engaging the campers and staff in all planned activities. This position must attend Pre-Camp certification training for all areas of Outdoor Adventure. Daily Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8-hour daily shifts, earliest arrival is 8:30am and latest departure is 4:30pm. Base Compensation: $121/day (based on an 8-hour workday). Plus opportunities for additional pay/bonuses. Essential Functions Responsible for being conscious of and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of all campers in any area or programs at camp. In addition to regularly scheduled camp days, attends and contributes to pre-camp training sessions, regularly scheduled staff meetings and training sessions once camp is in session. Participates in the open house and any family events. Outline area programs for the week, specifying activities for each age group and skills to be taught at their developmental level. Responsible for recording planning on weekly lesson plan sheets. Promote safety within your area, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques. Responsible for maintenance of assigned area and any equipment. Keeping inventory of equipment and requesting supplies as needed. In conjunction with other specialists and senior camp staff, design and implement All Camp weekly and specialty programs based on the weekly themes. Other tasks as assigned by the camp leaders. Minimum Qualifications Experience working with children desired, not required. Passionate about making a positive impact on a young person's life. Demonstrated interest in specialty area including but not limited to hands on experience, school coursework, etc. Attend Pre-Camp certification training for all areas of Outdoor Adventure. Abuse Risk Management Adhere to policies related to boundaries with participants Attend required abuse risk management training Adhere to procedures related to managing high risk activities and supervising participants Report inappropriate behaviors and policy violations Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to verbally communicate with others. In the work setting, this is primarily an active role, which requires the employee to move around regularly. Additional physical requirements include lifting and moving items up to 25 lbs., standing, crouching, reaching.
