A.T. Still University's Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) is seeking an exempt, part-time Director of Student Medical Education. This position reports to the Associate Dean Clinical Affairs and Director of Programs. The Director of Student Medical Education is primary faculty at the core clinical training site responsible for supervising and directing the clinical education of KCOM third and fourth year medical students. This position is responsible for making decisions that will maximize the clinical experience for students as a whole, managing emergent needs of clinical rotations, and coordinating the curriculum delivery within the region. The position performs as a mentor, educator and evaluator of KCOM core assigned medical students in the region.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assure clinical rotation schedules are arranged for third and fourth year KCOM students within the region.
Enforce the academic policy of the University.
Provide routine mentoring and professional advice to KCOM medical students.
Identify a regional group of preceptors willing to make a recurring academic commitment to clinical experiences.
Evaluate, establish, and arrange for clinical rotations within the region.
Approve student absences from the clinical experience.
Provide recommendations related to budget within the region.
Provide annual regional summary to main campus.
Represent KCOM at the hospital or system meetings that affect student education.
Serve as a collaborative representative between KCOM and the regional site (including students, hospital, administration, preceptors and staff) as appropriate.
Assess students' fitness for duty and restructure student responsibilities with approval from the college.
Secure and submit required documents for credentialing consideration.
Communicate with college departments in assessment and plan development.
Work closely with the region coordinator and students to ensure completion of all student requirements to achieve graduation.
Perform additional duties as assigned to facilitate learning, educational curriculum and assessment toward student success.
Requirements Education & Experience: DO or MD degree required. Two to three years experience in medical education. Ability to oversee student functions including the application of Osteopathic Principles and Practice. Possess leadership and communication skills; problem solving skills. Ability to communicate with multiple individuals keeping all informed.
