Position Summary This Trading Position executes physical & financial trading strategies across NGLs and Petrochemicals to manage risk and capture margin opportunities. The role balances asset‑backed trading strategies and hedge execution with discretionary overlays, leveraging analytics and market insights to optimize outcomes of the NGL portfolio.
NGL & Petrochemicals Trader has two primary objectives:
Execute physical and financial NGL Petrochemical trading strategies across physical volumes, futures, swaps, and options to deliver incremental margin
Manage book‑level exposure with disciplined adherence to limits and controls
Key Responsibilities Trading & Hedge Execution
Build and trade MPC’s physical and financial NGL and Petrochemical portfolio in the US markets
Enter and manage derivative positions across NGL and Petrochemical exchanges and OTC
Align hedging overlays with book‑level physical exposures and risk appetite
Execute discretionary spreads and options structures within delegated authority
Risk & Compliance
Operate within approved position limits, liquidity, and stress limits and record exceptions per policy
Partner with Middle Office to validate mark‑to‑market, P&L attribution, and limit usage
Ensure compliance with governance protocols and exchange trading rules
Market Development
Build and maintain strong relationships with NGL and Petrochemical partners and counterparties in US markets
Prepare periodic reports on market activities and competitive developments to ensure MPC remains a competitive player
Market & Analytics Integration
Use curve analytics, signals, and fundamentals to inform entries and exits as well as to optimize economic value added from short‑term NGL purchases, sales, and exchanges
Maintain trade journals and post‑trade reviews to institutionalize learning
Cross‑Functional Interfaces
Engage with analytics to improve models, pricing tools, and dashboards
Coordinate with NGL and Petrochemical marketing & scheduling teams to align on supply forecasts, transaction structures, transport feasibility, and delivery timing to maximize market structure value
Coordinate volume allocation for NGL and Petrochemical within respective trading & marketing groups (e.g., volume for trading, contractually obligated volumes, refinery needs, etc.)
Collaborate with Supply, Trading, & Origination and NGL and Petrochemical Marketing teams to develop overall portfolio exposure view and align financial and physical positions
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required.
Five (5) or more years of experience in Trading or Marketing including profit/loss responsibility for Product Trading, Contract Negotiation and Scheduling (rail, truck, vessel and pipe).
