Job purpose
International Arts & Artists (IA&A), a nonprofit cultural diplomacy organization based in Washington, DC, seeks a highly motivated, results-driven Director of Exhibition Marketing to lead and grow the sales and marketing of IA&A’s portfolio of traveling cultural exhibitions.
This mid- to senior-level role is responsible for direct outreach to museums and cultural institutions across the United States and internationally, developing divisional strategy, and managing a team of 2-3. The position combines direct sales activity, relationship management, and organizational partnerships, and is well-suited for a professional who is comfortable managing a sales pipeline while working closely with internal and external partners.
Duties and responsibilities
Sales Pipeline Management: Drive revenue by prospecting, negotiating, and closing bookings for IA&A’s traveling exhibition portfolio with museums and cultural institutions.
Strategic Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain long‑term partnerships with museum directors, curators, and exhibition planners to secure repeat bookings and identify new market opportunities.
Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead a marketing team of 2-3, providing guidance and professional development while ensuring the team meets established divisional targets.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Partner with the Vice President of Exhibitions to align sales activities with operational capacity and share market insights to inform future exhibition development.
CRM & Data Integrity: Maintain accurate institutional records and sales data within Monday.com to facilitate precise forecasting and the refinement of internal sales processes.
Organizational Representation: Serve as a primary ambassador for IA&A at industry events and meetings, demonstrating deep content knowledge and a commitment to the organization's mission of cultural diplomacy.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; background in arts administration, museum studies, marketing, or related fields preferred.
Director: 6+ years of progressive experience in sales, marketing, or revenue‑generating roles
Experience in relationship‑based sales, earned revenue environments, or direct marketing preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfort with phone‑based and outbound communication.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet goals, and collaborate effectively across teams.
Experience with CRM systems (Monday preferred).
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem‑solving ability.
Interest in and enthusiasm for the visual arts and museum field.
Compensation
The starting salary range for this position is $75,000-85,000 per year depending upon experience. This position is eligible for commission. IA&A also provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance (medical/dental/vision), retirement plan (403b), paid time off (vacation/sick/holiday), cultural memberships (museums/theaters), and transit benefits.
Working conditions
International Arts and Artists is located in the historic DuPont Circle neighborhood in Washington, DC. This is a hybrid position. The incumbent is expected to work in the Washington, DC headquarters on a regular basis, with an in‑office presence at least 2-3 days a week. Occasional travel and evening/weekend obligations will be expected.
