The Role We are seeking a Tax Preparer to handle the preparation and execution of individual and business tax returns under senior review.
This is a preparation and execution role, not a senior tax position. Your focus is accurate, efficient preparation of returns based on client information and firm standards.
This position is hourly. Workload is highest during tax season, with reduced and more flexible hours outside of peak deadlines. For the right candidate, this role may be structured as seasonal or evolve into more consistent year‑round work based on mutual fit and firm needs.
Primary Responsibilities Tax Preparation
Prepare individual income tax returns (Form 1040)
Prepare business returns (S corporations, partnerships, LLCs)
Prepare trust and estate returns
Prepare extensions and amended returns
Organize workpapers and supporting documentation
Follow firm preparation standards and checklists
Execution & Support
Input data accurately into tax software
Identify missing or inconsistent information and request clarification
Research basic tax questions using firm resources
Escalate complex or unusual issues appropriately
Respond to routine client questions under guidance
Maintain organized files and workflow You will work under review. This role is about solid, accurate execution.
What We’re Looking For Required
2–5 years of tax preparation experience
Solid working knowledge of individual and business returns
Proficiency with tax software (we use Drake)
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work efficiently during busy periods
Comfortable asking questions and escalating appropriately
Reliable, professional, and deadline‑aware
Preferred
Experience with partnerships and S corporations
Exposure to trust and estate returns
Prior experience in a CPA firm or tax practice
Familiarity with tax preparation software
Compensation & Schedule
Compensation: Hourly, commensurate with experience
Busy Season (January–April): Full‑time hours expected
Extension Periods (September–October): Additional hours as needed
Outside Peak Periods: Reduced and flexible hours depending on workload
For the right candidate, this role may be seasonal or may grow into a more consistent year‑round position.
