Position Reporting to the Marketing Manager, the Digital Marketing Specialist supports the execution of Hire Heroes USA’s digital marketing efforts across social media, website, and advertising platforms. This role focuses on creating and publishing engaging organic content, maintaining accurate and up-to-date website materials, implementing SEO and digital advertising tactics, and tracking performance through dashboards and reports. The Digital Marketing Specialist plays a key role in bringing campaigns to life by coordinating tasks, collaborating with consultants and internal teams, and ensuring that digital channels effectively reach and engage our audiences—veterans, military spouses, supporters, and partners. This role is ideal for a self-directed digital marketer who can handle day-to-day execution and prioritize tasks independently, and adhere to established brand and style guidelines across various mediums in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.

Responsibilities Social Media & Content Execution

Create, publish, and monitor organic social content (copy, graphics, video, event coverage), engaging directly with audiences and partners to drive awareness, platform growth, and campaign engagement. Ensure content across all mediums meets spec standards.

Collaborate with the Marketing Manager and external consultants to support influencer engagement, cross-channel content optimization, and campaign alignment.

Maintain dashboards and reporting on social performance, providing insights that inform future content strategies.

Optimize and monitor Google My Business profiles, including development and execution of regular updates (graphics, events, campaigns, etc.).

Maintain platform-specific content pillars, voice/tone standards, and creative guidelines to ensure consistent brand presence.

Website Maintenance

Maintain and update website content to ensure accuracy, brand consistency, and timely posting of new information.

Collaborate with internal teams on program, event, and campaign updates; support optimization projects focused on user experience, accessibility, and lead generation.

Use website analytics to identify performance trends and recommend content improvements.

Focus on ongoing content updates and optimization, not full-scale web development, working with existing frameworks and in coordination with external web partners as needed.

SEO & Digital Advertising

Collaborate closely with the Marketing Manager and external consultants to monitor paid search strategies (grants, Google ads) and ensure ongoing optimizations.

Support and amplify the organization’s use of digital advertising including Google Grants by assisting with campaign execution, reporting, and updated training as applicable; contribute to fundraising and corporate partner campaigns through aligned advertising efforts.

Analytics & Reporting

Monitor & analyze performance across social, web, and advertising channels, compiling monthly reporting that tracks engagement, reach, and conversions and translating that data into actionable insights and recommendations alongside the leadership team.

Ensure accurate reporting on website KPIs and share insights with the Marketing Manager to support continuous improvement and decision-making.

Project Management & Internal Collaboration

Track campaign timelines and deliverables in coordination with the Marketing Manager, updating tasks in the Marketing Request Portal (PMT) and other project management tools to ensure assets are completed on schedule and team visibility is maintained.

Collaborate with internal teams and external partners on fundraising and marketing campaigns, coordinating digital content needs and ensuring consistent brand representation.

Demonstrate a strong team-player mindset within the Marketing & Communications department by collaborating across roles and supporting colleagues on shared projects, flexibly working with all team members as organizational needs arise.

Desired Skills & Experience

4+ years of experience as a digital marketing professional in-house or at a firm or agency focused on digital marketing tactics (i.e. social media, web, digital advertising)

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field such as Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, UX/UI Design or Advertising

Strong familiarity with WordPress, with experience maintaining and updating websites in collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

Experience executing digital marketing campaigns, email campaigns, website maintenance and/or management

Experience and a vast knowledge of social posting platforms (i.e. Sprout, Vistasocial, etc) posting and analytics tools

Experience editing short-form video content for social media (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn), including SEO-friendly tags and descriptions

Experience with email service platforms (MailChimp, Pardot, Emma)

Certifications in Google Analytics and/or Google Adwords is a plus

Graphic Design experience/portfolio a plus; working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable handling multiple projects independently in a deadline driven environment.

Ability to leverage feedback, learnings, and observations derived from daily interactions with our digital presence

Experience working in (or with) a nonprofit, mission-driven, resource-conscious organization is a plus

Estimated New Hire Salary $45,000 - $52,000 annually
