Summary
Huntington Bank’s Commercial Portfolio Manager – Team Leader is responsible for developing and implementing a team strategy to meet assigned goals, mitigating risk, and underwriting transactions originated by the middle market banking team. The role ensures that the overall portfolio of relationships and transactions aligns with the bank’s risk profile. The Portfolio Manager maintains acceptable credit quality, tracks portfolio performance, and develops robust analysis and data capture processes to support decision‑making and client insight. Accountability includes identifying client needs and directing them to the middle market banking team to drive revenue growth.
Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership: Coach and counsel team, fostering a culture of teamwork, transparency, innovation, and a win‑or‑lose mindset.
Build and maintain a positive partnership with the middle market banking team, mentoring new employees and fostering career paths.
Participate in the design and implementation of regional banking strategy alongside other management peers.
Quality Assurance: Adhere to bank policies, manage risk and compliance, and ensure audit performance meets standards.
Administrative: Develop work schedules, oversee hiring, terminations, salary adjustments, disciplinary actions, and conduct performance reviews; communicate portfolio management strategy.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of proven, successful underwriting and documentation experience in commercial lending.
Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong administrative and risk‑management skills.
Previous formalized credit training.
Management experience preferred; however, strong leadership potential will be considered.
Proven negotiation skills.
Proficiency in written and verbal communication.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
Experience structuring complex credits, researching and presenting information, and creating documentation to support the credit and minimize risk.
Track record of coaching, skill development, and feedback for team members.
High level of professionalism.
