Job Description Position Title:
Activities and Athletic Director
Reports To:
Principals
Summary:
The Athletic Director is a 12-month administrative position responsible for providing overall leadership, supervision, and coordination of all middle school and high school sports and activity programs to provide students safe, compliant, competitive, and student-centered learning experiences. Key responsibilities include scheduling and oversight of contests and competitions; recruiting, hiring and evaluating coaches and activity sponsors; and assuring compliance with all applicable policies, rules and bylaws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Administration of Programs
Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day oversight of all high school and middle school athletic and activity programs, ensuring alignment and compliance with District goals, policies and procedures; MSHSAA regulations; and EMO Conference athletic rules and by‑laws.
Works with community leaders, and District personnel to build youth programs for high school athletic and activity programs.
Attends and participates in state and regional athletic director meetings and trainings, including, but not limited to, EMO Conference and MSHSS meetings.
Promote a culture of sportsmanship, integrity, and excellence across all programs.
Maintains required records related to all programs.
Monitors student eligibility with high school and middle school sports, academic progress, and adherence to activities codes of conduct.
Develops and revises, as necessary, the Activities Handbook.
Works collaboratively to address and resolve any conflicts related to programs including concerns raised by, or about, students, parents, officials and/or staff members.
Serves as the District liaison to Booster clubs and various community partners and ensures a collaborative partnership for the betterment of athletic and activities programs.
Coordinate club and organization assemblies to include preparing an agenda and ensuring that all of the physical needs are arranged properly.
Coordinates all summer activities, including strength & conditioning, open gyms and camps.
Coordinates the fundraising activities of all student organizations in cooperation with principals.
Coordinates, organizes and supervises athletic and activities awards programs.
Supervision of Personnel
Recruits, interviews, makes hiring recommendations, supports, and evaluates coaches and activities personnel.
Plans and conducts regular meetings with all coaches to set a shared vision, set and reinforces expectations, disseminates relevant information, and builds a consistent approach to all athletic programs.
Communicates all necessary MSHSAA information, rules requirements, eligibility information, and online registrations and rules reviews, and assures compliance with MSHSAA regulations.
Secures, assigns and oversees personnel (supervision help, scorers, timers, gate workers, chain workers, trainers and officials) for all athletic contests and other activities as appropriate.
Oversight of Events
Develops and distributes all interscholastic high school and middle school activities schedules, and maintains contest contract forms and other necessary records.
Obtains and schedules student transportation and meals for all scheduled events at locations other than Wright City.
Provides game administration and supervision of all home athletic contests including distribution of appropriate checklists and instructions to facility helpers, etc.
Attends select away contests and/or arranges for proper supervision of these contests.
Communicates information regarding upcoming home contests to opponents, personnel, students, parents using a variety of mediums.
Coordinates with administrators and activities personnel about postponements, cancellations, or delays of contests due to weather concerns/conditions, and informs all activities personnel, administrators, officials, bus personnel, student participants, and the public using a variety of methods in case of any postponements, delays, or cancellations.
Creates and provides game‑specific programs for all interscholastic home sporting events.
Coordinate with the Wright City Parks Department for the use of park fields for all scheduled middle school softball practices and interscholastic contests
Oversight of Program Equipment and Facilities
Makes recommendations for the improvement of facilities and District athletic and activities programs to the Superintendent, and communicates any facility needs to the District Facility Director.
Develops and updates the replacement schedule of uniforms, equipment, and supplies for all athletic and activities programs.
Maintains a record of all activities department inventory, including sport specific uniforms.
Receives and evaluates equipment requests from coaches and activities personnel.
Coordinates the use of facilities for all interscholastic contests; including providing schedules of all practices and contests to the District Facilities Director.
Responsible for the preparation of all fields and gymnasiums for MSHSAA‑sponsored athletic events or contests.
Management of Activities Budgets, Expenditures and Revenue
Works with activities personnel, coaches, building administrators, and the Superintendent to build annual budgets.
Oversees and maintains all budgets within the scope of the department.
Responsible for accounting for all department expenditures and revenues, including gate receipts.
Additional Responsibilities
In form and make recommendations concerning athletics to the principal.
Any other appropriate tasks or duties that may be assigned from time to time by supervisors.
Qualifications Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:
A valid Missouri teaching certificate
At least one year of head coaching experience in Missouri.
School Leader or Secondary Principal Certification, preferred
Demonstrated experience in athletics administration or related leadership roles, preferred.
Success in building/leading athletic programs to higher levels of success.
Skills, Abilities and Knowledge:
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and lead under pressure.
A team‑oriented approach and commitment to the success of all students.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills including the ability to work with a wide demographic of stakeholders.
An entrepreneurial mindset with an ability to create successful athletic events.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, memos, policies and rules.
Ability to write general correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one, small group, and large group situations.
Ability to apply logical understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
Ability to problem solve in varied situations.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, walk, see and use hands and arms to handle, feel and reach. The employee is asked to run or jog, to demonstrate athletic moves, and to maintain a high level of energy. The employee is responsible for field preparation and often is asked to complete strenuous work on the fields when preparing a field for game play.
Terms of Employment:
Contract terms covering compensation, benefits, and working conditions are specified by the Board of Education’s policies, agreements and approvals.
