THE ROLE Event Manager – Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Event Manager provides professional client support in the planning, organization, and management of events within the facility. Monitors coordination of events and post‑event tasks, and interacts with clients, facility staff, in‑house concessionaires, and related personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Establish contact with clients upon event assignment and serve as primary liaison between clients and facility departments.

Maintain rapport with clients, their associates, service suppliers, and building staff, ensuring a high level of customer service.

Meet with and guide clients to plan and organize assigned events, interpreting contract provisions, facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Coordinate activities with various service contractors for assigned events.

Keep clients informed of deadline schedules, including floor‑plan submissions, meeting‑room set‑up specifications, and event timelines.

Secure and coordinate pertinent event information for effective use of the facility, such as room set‑ups, utility requirements, audio‑visual needs, security, and staffing.

Produce computer‑generated floor plans and determine facility equipment requirements.

Provide clear, concise, and timely communication of detailed event requirements to facility departments.

Prepare cost estimates and monitor final billing.

Participate in weekly production meetings to review upcoming event details with all building departments.

Work irregular schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate business and client needs.

Interact with guests in a friendly, courteous, and polite manner, greeting them within ten feet and offering assistance when needed.

Maintain comfort around large groups or speaking to guests as required.

Understand the importance of customer service and the motto “The Magic is in the Details.”

Perform all other assigned duties.

Education and / or Experience

Minimum of two years’ experience in public facility management, promotion, or operation of conventions or trade shows, or service‑related operation.

Skills and Abilities

Good knowledge of the principles of administration related to the provision of facilities, services and equipment in a convention, exhibition, conference, or entertainment center.

General knowledge of the services, vendors, or other organizations involved in producing events.

Sound organizational, planning, and people skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Sound computer skills.

Ability to prioritize multiple projects and demonstrate critical thinking skills.

Professional appearance and strong work ethic.

Ability to interact with all types of people in a polite and courteous manner.

Ability to work well as a collaborator.

Working Conditions Location: On Site – Greater Columbus Convention Center, Columbus, OH.

Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to sit for long hours, work indoors and outdoors, maneuver around the facility, walk or stand 6–10 hours daily, and lift in excess of 50 pounds.
