Role Business Relationship Managers (BRMs) play a pivotal role in helping our business members achieve their financial goals. They are the primary advisor for our business members who are managed in the Business Services department. BRMs are responsible for building new & deepening existing relationships; delivering financial expertise and member-centric solutions that build strong, long-term relationships. Approximately 40% of their time is spent on outside business development activities and growing their Centers of Influence network. Typically, these members and prospects are companies with up to $15 Million in annual revenue with a mix of needs ranging from Commercial and Industrial lending as well as Developer & Investor Commercial Real Estate credit. BRMs obtain credit approval of loans within assigned limits and are the front line for managing loan portfolio credit quality. They provide appropriate credit structure recommendations to members, core deposit and treasury products as needed, and make referrals to other areas within the credit union.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
30% Develops primary member and prospect lists within assigned territory for the purpose of marketing a broad range of credit union services including core deposit services and new loan opportunities. Prioritizes and plans strategic calling efforts from their working list of businesses. Outbound calling efforts also include developing and maintaining Centers of Influence, which over time, lead to more business generation.
20% Interviews existing and potential new members to better understand their business needs and to assess for qualification of our products and services. This includes sales and balance sheet trends, business owner objectives and potential risk identification within the operation.
15% Collaborates with the credit analyst team to assess capacity and appropriate credit structure. Prepares and presents credit approval recommendations on all borrowing requests.
15% Manages the assigned loan portfolio. Ensures timely and thorough monitoring of all credits through periodic reviews, continual analysis, and proper documentation. Contacts borrowers as needed. Trouble shoots and suggests resolution steps to remedy deficiencies when appropriate or needed.
10% Ensures accuracy and compliance with regulations and internal policies and procedures. Maintains thorough documentation.
10% Provides excellent member service to internal staff and members, Assists the Business Services team as needed. Proactively performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Knowledge & Skills Experience:
One year to three years of similar or related experience.
Education:
Equivalent to a college degree (BS or BA in a relevant field) Advanced level training in business/credit decision and knowledge of applicable financial services.
Interpersonal Skills:
Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
Other Skills:
Business and financial statement analysis skills. Critical thinking and decision-making skills. Analysis and negotiation skills. Good judgment. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Professionalism with the ability to conduct effective and persuasive presentations. Resourceful with strong trouble shooting skills. Excellent communication skills required, both verbal and written. Strong computer and applicable software skills including the use of loan programs, spreadsheets and word processing software.
Physical Requirements Some lifting required (up to 30 pounds), continuous sitting, occasional standing and occasional walking. Finger dexterity while using computer. Occasional talking and hearing in person and on the telephone. Continuous clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and continuous clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Work Environment Normal workday with occasional overtime. Exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, i.e., robbery. May require working Saturdays or Sunday.
