MCAD Designer I
Location Parsippany, NJ
Pay Range $25 - $35 per hour
Overview Provide computer-aided design (CAD) and technical drawing support for new product research and development, including derivatives of existing product lines. Interpret industry design and drafting standards, military specifications, and company internal procedures to deliver quality, manufacturable designs.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Electrical Technology.
Experience with PTC Creo 4.0+ and Windchill 12.0.
Mechanical design experience, including material properties, fits & finishes, and geometric tolerancing (GD&T).
Strong PTC Creo CAD solid modeling skills and understanding of mechanical design principles.
Knowledge of separating operations (turning, milling, drilling, boring, tapping) for metal and polymer materials.
Familiarity with fluid components, sealing elements, bearings, electro‑mechanical packaging, PCB design, and harness design a plus.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with all levels of personnel.
Computer literate with MS Office/PC expertise and experience with relevant systems and programs.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed 3‑D design layouts of complex parts and assemblies, including fits, finishes, tolerances, and material selection.
Generate simple design layouts as requested by project engineers or senior designers.
Create manufacturing documentation in accordance with company and industry standards, including tolerance stack‑ups.
Support the development of a standard library of parts and features for future reuse.
Maintain existing documentation through ECNs and AECNs.
Interpret industry design and drafting standards, military specifications, and internal procedures.
Participate in PDR and CDR reviews to present design parameters.
Perform basic trigonometry and solid geometry calculations.
Detail‑check assemblies and drawings to company standards, including redraws.
Apply geometric tolerances (GTOL) to satisfy design, manufacturing, and inspection requirements.
Generate fully annotated drawings from 3‑D assembly models.
Utilize existing Marotta hardware and custom software for new designs and redesigns.
Own projects from concept through production in a product‑development environment.
Analyze designs for improvement opportunities.
Collaborate with engineers to evaluate the feasibility of designs.
Prepare as‑built drawing packages with high efficiency.
Perform basic engineering calculations and tolerance stack‑ups.
Additional Duties
Conduct research as needed.
Initiate and complete projects in a timely manner through effective collaboration.
Adhere to safety, quality, housekeeping, and company policies.
Communicate effectively at all levels.
Participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives, and company goal‑driven actions.
Assist in training personnel on technical tasks.
Demonstrate commitment to company values.
Keep management informed of area activities and significant issues.
Physical Requirements
Regularly talk and hear.
Frequently reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
Stand, sit, walk, stoop, or crouch regularly; move about the facility.
Lift or move items up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
Frequent exposure to fluids, fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration typical of a manufacturing/machine shop.
Work in both professional office and manufacturing environments using standard office equipment (computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines).
Temperature may vary due to outside conditions and machining processes.
Days are 8 hours/day, Monday through Friday; overtime and weekend work may be required.
No travel required.
