
Associate - Associate Product Owner, AI & Data

This entry-level role serves as an Associate Product Owner in the AI & Data (AI&D) product management organization, supporting product requirements development, roadmap management, and backlog execution. You will work alongside experienced product managers and cross-functional teams across data engineering, data governance, data science, and data analytics. You’ll gain exposure to business partners across New York Life—including Recruiting & Development, Sales, Service, Investment Advisory, and Technology—while building foundational product management skills in a dynamic AI and data environment. This role offers strong growth potential for individuals interested in building a career in AI and data product management within a regulated financial services organization.
What You’ll Do:
Support product definition, roadmap planning, and agile delivery across AI & Data initiatives
Assist with execution support by managing product backlogs, writing user stories, and supporting sprint planning with scrum teams
Help document business problems, gather user feedback, and support the creation of functional requirements and technical specifications
Maintain JIRA user stories, tasks, and supporting documentation, ensuring backlog items are clearly defined and properly prioritized
Support communication and coordination between AI&D teams, business partners, and technology stakeholders
Participate in product demos, reviews, and stakeholder meetings
Track product metrics such as adoption, utilization, and user satisfaction
Create reports and dashboards to measure and communicate product effectiveness
Actively participate in agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
Develop expertise in AI products, data platforms, and product management best practices through hands‑on experience and mentorship
What You’ll Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Business, or a related field
0–2 years of professional experience in product management, business analysis, consulting, or technical roles
Demonstrated interest in AI, data, and technology through coursework, projects, internships, or self‑study
Familiarity with generative AI and large language models (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) through academic or personal use
Basic understanding of data concepts, including databases, APIs, and analytics
Exposure to Agile methodologies and project management concepts
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively within cross‑functional teams
Self‑motivated learner who is comfortable asking questions and seeking feedback
Proficiency with common productivity tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and documentation platforms
Preferred Qualifications
Internship or academic project experience related to AI/ML, data analytics, or product development
Coursework or certifications in product management, data science, or AI/ML
Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, or similar project and backlog management tools
Understanding of financial services products or experience in regulated industries
Experience with SQL, Python, or data visualization tools
Prior experience gathering requirements or writing user stories
Participation in product management competitions, case studies, or product launches
Pay Transparency Salary Range: $66,500-$95,500
Overtime eligible: Nonexempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
