Compensation
Pay range: $58,656.00-$65,000/yr.
Benefits: For employees contracted for 30 hours per week or more, Thomas MacLaren School pays for 100% of the employee’s base insurance premiums (Health, Dental, Vision, Long-term and Short-term disability, Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance, and Life insurance) for the base level coverages. No benefits are provided to employees contracted for less than 30 hours per week.
General Purpose The Athletic Director coordinates, implements, and evaluates the athletic program in conformance with school policies, Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) rules and conference league policies, and the mission of Thomas MacLaren School.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Mission
Learn the mission of the school and how it applies to Athletics
Positively represent the school at home and away sporting and non-sporting events
Positively represents the school and its mission to the students, parents, colleagues, and general public
Compliance
Assure that coaches and players adhere to CHSAA rules; assist in assuring that the athletic program meets League and CHSAA regulations
Verify that all athletes are medically cleared, have been released by parents, and have paid the sports registration fee
Collect and maintain on file a properly completed physical exam that is updated annually for every student participating in athletics
Verify that all athletes are academically eligible to compete
Provide training of coaching staff in coordination with Head of School and health team
Ensure that each varsity coach maintains an accurate inventory of equipment and materials, and check such an inventory at the conclusion of each season
Ensure each team has uniforms that comply with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) requirements for their sport
Assist in the responsibility for certification of coaching staff in accordance with CHSAA guidelines
Prepare and maintain a master sports calendar that includes conference and non-conference games/events
Establish and enforce a safety protocol for after-school practices
Communication & Events
Be able to work cooperatively with school staff and administration
Develop a schedule of varsity and junior varsity and middle school events in accordance with CHSAA and League regulations.
Attend monthly athletic conference meetings
Conduct mandatory parent training each season – this has been modified to only be required of “new” families.
Coordinate release times of athletes on days of competition, verify and report on attendance
Coordinate the collection of rosters for program information as needed
Collaborate with the Assistant Head of School – Student Life in running monthly student-faculty athletic events as needed
Communicate with health office about physicals, injuries, and CPR First Aid training of coaches
Communicate with health office and appropriate faculty concerning athletes who sustained an injury
Organize the Athletic Honors events. Keep records of all awards/letters issued. Coordinate the ordering of awards
Respond to all concerns, calls, and emails from staff and parents.
Provide a channel through which students and the community may express their concerns about an athletic program
Manage Athletic budget
Supervision
Serve as the “Administrator on Duty” at all home games or delegate to a trained administrator
Works closely with the staff and administration to develop and enforce an athletic/academic code of conduct which is consistent with the goals of the administration and the school
Oversee the selection of coaches for the athletic program, coordinate with Human Resources to post jobs for coaching positions and lead the interview and hiring process
Evaluate all athletic programs on an annual basis. Make recommendations for improvement to the Executive Director
Evaluate coaches on an annual basis and mentor their development
Troubleshoot the day-to-day operation of a high school athletic program
Provide adequate practice and playing facilities
Assume responsibility for the safety and welfare of students whenever a danger is observed on or about the campus, following established protocols and EAPs.
Coordinate gym, building and athletic field use with the appropriate site
Orient all coaches regarding site and school policies, procedures and expectations
Oversee the maintenance of the inventory of all athletic equipment and uniforms
Assist in the responsibility for the care of athletic facilities
Secure game workers for athletic contests: officials, announcers, clock operators, score keepers, line judges, etc.
Maintain punctuality for all prescribed functions
Confirm officials’ contracts and all non-conference contest contracts
Mediate the resolution of problems, issues, and concerns that may arise between coaches and athletic programs
If needed, supervise extracurricular activities
As needed or assigned; if qualified, the AD may teach or have other assignments such as monitoring duties.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (preferred) with administrative and/or coaching experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational ability and detailed oriented. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal communication, and organizational skills; solid working knowledge of school-based athletics, the CHSAA, and conference league rules and procedures.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
CPR/First Aid/AED training (will provide if not current)
Experience Experience in sports management or coaching skills
