
Elections Clerk
Lewis and Clark County is recruiting for Elections Clerks to join their team! Under general supervision of the Elections Division Supervisor, this position provides administrative, clerical and technical support for the Elections Division. The above knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and one (1) year experience in customer service. Associate degree in business, Social Sciences, Public and Social Services or other relevant field preferred. Professional certifications in election administration, office technology, Microsoft Suite or other relevant fields preferred. Must obtain and maintain Election Administrator certification in the course of employment. Duties and Responsibilities: Essential Functions: Receives and processes applications and petitions, including but not limited to voter registration applications, absentee ballots requests, replacement ballot requests, and candidate filings; Assists voters in person, over the phone, and by email; Responds to questions regarding election processes, rules and regulations; Issues and accounts for election materials; Maintains election schedule; Prepares notices and election materials needed for election activities including but not limited to absentee ballot mailings, NVRA (National Voter Registration Act) mailings, annual absentee ballot mailings; Conducts quality control checks in the Election Management and Voter Registration database; Enters voter registration information into database; Maintains voter history files; Other Functions: Opens and distributes department mail; Generates reports. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Examples of Knowledge: Montana Code Annotated regarding elections and voter registration; Elections division policies and procedures; department policies and procedures; County policies and procedures; Office practices and procedures; State mandated retention schedules for legal documents; Election management protocols and procedures. Example of Skills and Abilities: Use common office machines; Operate computer systems and related software, and ballot marking equipment, including word processing, spreadsheet and proprietary programs, multi-line phone system; Maintain files and records according to prescribed standards; Communicate effectively orally and in writing; Follow verbal and written instructions; Establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and citizens. Physical Demands: Duties are generally performed in an office environment where hazards and discomforts are controlled and modifiable. This position requires the ability to stand, bend at the waist, kneel, reach over the head, talk, hear, and see. Must be able to move or lift documents and materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Position requires knowledge and use of typical office equipment including telephone, copiers, fax machines and personal computer. Must be able to work extended shifts during scheduled elections.
