This position exists to lead a team of expert technicians in providing physical and technical assistance for network systems, ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and security of IT services across all campuses and international sites. The role involves a mix of strategic planning, team leadership, and tactical execution to support the entire lifecycle of network equipment and cabling infrastructure.**Duties include, but are not limited to:*** **Team Leadership and Management:** Lead and manage a team of Smart Hands Engineers, fostering a high-performance culture.* **Infrastructure Management:** Oversee the team's efforts in managing and maintaining all physical network and telecommunications infrastructure.* **Standards and Policy Development:** Direct the development and enforcement of cabling and telecommunication standards for university projects.* **Operational Oversight:** Ensure the team follows all work tickets, change control, and incident management processes.* **Vendor and Contractor Relations:** Manage relationships and contracts with IT cabling and other technical contractors.* **Strategic Planning and Budgeting:** Develop budget requests for team resources and advocate for strategic infrastructure investments.* **Skill Development:** Guide the team in learning and advancing expertise with emerging technologies.**Work Interactions**The work performed by the Director of Smart Hands Engineering is integral to the overall function of the Systems Engineering and Operations team. This position reports to Barry Arnold, Senior Director, Infrastructure Operations, and is responsible for managing a team of six full-time staff. The Director directly interacts with the Network Engineering team, IT cabling contractors, project leaders, and other relevant parties to ensure seamless service delivery and infrastructure integrity. The influence of this role extends across the entire University, as its work directly supports the foundational IT infrastructure that enables teaching, research, and administrative functions, thereby contributing to the mission and goals of Georgetown University.**Requirements and Qualifications*** Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering) or equivalent practical experience.* Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in network or telecommunications infrastructure support, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.* Demonstrated experience with network monitoring tools such as Meraki, SolarWinds, or Nagios.* Proficiency in developing and maintaining physical network equipment inventories and RMA processes.* Strong understanding of cabling and telecommunication standards for both copper and fiber optic systems.* Ability to troubleshoot and repair network equipment.* Experience with physical infrastructure reviews, including power, cooling, lighting, and security.* Knowledge of and ability to guide a team in learning additional technologies, including GOCard, cameras, wireless access points, AV equipment, IOT, and Building Automation Systems.* Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills for working with internal teams and external contractors.* Familiarity with change control and incident management processes.**Work Mode Designation**This position has been designated as On Campus
