White Pond Waterfront Director

The Waterfront Director (WD) will be responsible for all aspects of waterfront operation, including the supervision of lifeguards and Head Lifeguards. The WD will provide water support to all program areas. The WD will interact directly with beach members and therefore must be friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable of the rules, regulations, and operations of the facility. This position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to multi‑task in a fun, fast‑paced environment. The WD will report directly to the Beede Swim and Fitness Center Aquatics Supervisor.

Pay range: $21.00 – $35.00 per hour; starting pay based on qualifications. This is an hourly, full‑time seasonal position, consisting of up to 40 hours per week. Schedule is May 15 – August 14, Sunday – Thursday 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

GENERAL SUMMARY Under the general supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor(s), the Waterfront Director directly oversees White Pond beach operations, including but not limited to member interactions, oversight of Head Lifeguards and Lifeguards, and confirming visitors have been properly checked in. This position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and creative thinking. It involves varied duties that require judgment and initiative, such as lifeguarding the beach, setting expectations, or acting as a backup park attendant. The incumbent is called upon to handle a significant amount of detail, each varying in substance and content, requiring flexibility in workload management.

Assumes general direction and supervision from the Aquatics Supervisor and Beede Swim and Fitness Center General Manager.

Directly supervises lifeguards and Head Lifeguards, and schedules them.

Establishes and maintains beach policies and procedures to ensure professional standards of operation.

Assists in planning and implementing staff training for seasonal operation.

Ensures all staff is trained in proper use of beachfront equipment and monitors proper usage.

Ensures that lifeguard staff are properly dressed and in uniform during hours of operation.

Conducts daily surveys of the waterfront area, keeping it free of hazards and debris.

Ensures all documentation required by the Department and Board of Health is completed in a timely, accurate manner.

Addresses all environmental, guest, and staff concerns effectively and efficiently.

Conducts a daily check of the facility for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.

Assigns, maintains, and oversees employee work schedules and daily tasks, ensuring adequate coverage by lifeguards during all hours of operation.

Makes all weather‑related decisions in coordination with the Recreation Supervisor during White Pond hours of operation.

Maintains an inventory list and ensures all equipment is in working order at all times.

Provides written and verbal evaluations of all beachfront staff by assigned deadlines.

Oversees beachfront office operations, including checking timecards and schedules.

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Aquatics Supervisor/Beede Center GM.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY Directly supervises the activities and performance of lifeguards and provides functional oversight to other aquatics staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Concord’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include scheduling staff, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Experience working in a recreation or leisure setting, preferred.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Minimum of 2 years waterfront experience.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (includes First Aid & CPR) with Waterfront Certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Thorough understanding of customer service and its relationship to participant satisfaction; excellent skills to communicate effectively with all members of the public, including children, adults, and senior citizens, in a courteous and tactful manner, and to enforce facility rules and regulations.

Dependable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours.

Ability to lead, motivate, and train a team and maintain effective working relationships.

Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.

This is an outdoor position and may be susceptible to extremes in temperature, noise, odors, and other conditions.

Majority of work is performed in a moderately noisy environment, with frequent interruptions.

Frequently subjected to demands of other individuals and the volume or rapidity with which tasks must be accomplished.

Work may be performed in various weather events, including temperature and precipitation.

May operate computer, printer, calculator, telephone, copier, facsimile machine and standard office equipment requiring eye‑hand coordination and finger dexterity.

Balancing, crouching, grasping, pulling, reaching, and stooping may also be required.
