Typical hours are Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5pm with no weekends, calls, or major holidays. This position can be level 1, 2, or Sr based on candidate experience.
Texas Oncology is looking for a Phlebotomist to join our team at the Dallas Sammons location. This is a part‑time position.

What Does the Phlebotomist Do? Under direct supervision, the Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting and processing specimens from patients. The role follows quality assurance and safety policies, assists with patient flow, identifies patients, draws blood samples, and sends them to the laboratory for analysis. The Phlebotomist also maintains collection areas, equipment, and performs record‑keeping duties within defined standard operating procedures.
Responsibilities
Performs phlebotomy and collects appropriate specimens as ordered.
Ensures pre‑authorizations and obtains appropriate consent before limited coverage tests.
Maintains proper documentation per the quality assurance program (accessioning logs, equipment records, checklists).
Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and ensures viability before use.
Sends specimens to reference laboratories for testing not performed in‑house.
Processes incoming lab orders and in‑house and incoming reports.
Updates and files daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs.
Properly identifies and bands patients for blood product transfusion and processes labeled specimens per local bloodbank policy.
Operates designated laboratory equipment as directed.
Uses equipment efficiently, maintains the work area, and performs routine maintenance.
Performs CLIA‑waived lab testing, records lot numbers of all controls, calibrators, and reagents.
Complies with regulatory agency standards and OSHA laws.
Disposes of hazardous materials appropriately.
Maintains a clean working environment and restocks the phlebotomy and laboratory area as needed.
Protects patient and staff confidentiality.
Qualifications
Level 1
Entry level; no experience required.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Licensure from an accredited phlebotomy school recommended.
Current state licensure if applicable.
Level 2
Requires three years of experience (in addition to Level 1 requirements).
Level Sr
Requires five or more years of experience (in addition to Level 1 and 2 requirements).
Physical Demands Full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, sitting/standing for extended periods, handling items up to 40 lb, corrected vision, color perception, hearing within normal range, legible handwriting.
Work Environment Regular exposure to direct contact with patients, blood/body fluids, chemotherapeutic agents, transmittable infections, corrosive chemicals, glassware, and needles. Reasonable accommodations available for disabilities.
