Scope of Project The
Maryland Health Benefit Exchange (MHBE) , an independent unit of state government, administers Maryland Health Connection (MHC), the state’s health insurance marketplace. MHBE seeks one (1) Senior Database Management Specialist to design, develop, optimize, administer, govern, and maintain complex databases and provide various database operational support services for HBX and other systems.
Primary work location will be 750 East Pratt Street, 6th Floor, Baltimore, MD 21202.
The candidate may be required to work on-site or remotely on specific days as determined by MHBE.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain complex enterprise databases, data lakes, and data warehouses.
Design complex database architecture, including data modeling, database schema design, and database security.
Design, develop and implement plans for migrating data.
Support implementation of data-centric, integrated software, hardware, cloud, and mobile solutions.
Provide database maintenance and operations recommendations for web applications, data-sharing initiatives, reports, and dashboards.
Review and support database integrations for operational and security compliance.
Perform optimization and cost-reduction strategies for database infrastructure and deployments.
Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and operations teams to automate AWS cloud operations.
Develop standards and scripts to monitor and alert cloud-based systems.
Design, develop, and support ETL processes across databases, data lakes, and warehouses.
Monitor database performance, troubleshoot errors, and debug issues.
Administer HBX databases including monitoring, backup, recovery, and security.
Ensure data quality, governance, validation rules, and metadata management.
Provide data support for unit, load, end-to-end, validation, and UAT testing.
Perform PostgreSQL database administration, RBAC, patch management, replication, and DR.
Perform PostgreSQL and MongoDB database migrations across data centers and AWS.
Monitor CPU, disk, memory, and space utilization in production databases.
Perform security hardening on PostgreSQL and MongoDB databases.
Analyze performance issues across application and database tiers.
Perform disaster recovery planning, testing, backup, and restore activities.
Perform PostgreSQL maintenance including vacuum, full vacuum, and analyze.
Perform PostgreSQL and MongoDB upgrades and storage management.
Install and maintain MongoDB databases for high availability.
Develop optimized SQL and NoSQL queries and manage indexes.
Participate in deployment playbooks, batch execution, and system health monitoring.
Collaborate with developers and stakeholders to implement scalable enterprise architectures.
Adhere to MHBE security, change control, and PMO policies.
Be flexible to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and off-hours as needed.
