Position Overview The client seeks a highly qualified individual consultant to serve as Project Director and Lead Research Consultant in support of the preparation of a Statewide Report on the State of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) in New York, as mandated by the New York State AAPI Commission. Senior leadership roles in nonprofit organizations, government advisory bodies, or advocacy organizations with demonstrated responsibility for research, policy development, and public reporting may be considered.
One individual will perform both Project Director and Lead Research Consultant responsibilities under a single contract. The role requires managing complex, multi‑author, multi‑stakeholder research initiatives with strong analytical, writing, and project management skills.
Scope of Work & Responsibilities Project Leadership & Management
Serve as Project Director, overseeing overall project coordination, workflow, and execution.
Manage day‑to‑day project operations, including timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and reporting requirements mandated by the New York State AAPI Commission.
Research & Content Development
Conduct, oversee, and synthesize comprehensive literature reviews related to AAPI populations in New York State.
Draft, co‑write, edit, and finalize selected sections of the statewide report.
Ensure clarity, consistency, analytical rigor, and accessibility across report content.
Collaboration & Coordination
Recruit, coordinate, and support chapter authors and subject‑matter experts.
Collaborate closely with data analysts to support data acquisition and ensure appropriate use of quantitative and qualitative data.
Coordinate with editors and designers to ensure high editorial quality, visual coherence, and accessibility of the final report.
Engage with academic experts, government agencies, and community organizations as required.
Final Deliverables
Support final production, review, and submission of the completed statewide report.
Ensure timely submission of all required deliverables.
Minimum Qualifications Education
Master’s degree required in a relevant field, including but not limited to: Public Policy, Public Administration, Urban Planning, Economics, Sociology, Public Health, Asian American Studies, or a closely related discipline.
Experience
Minimum seven (7) years of professional experience in applied research, policy analysis, organizational leadership, or program evaluation.
Experience related to social equity, population studies, or community‑based research.
Required Skills & Expertise
Leading or directing complex, multi‑stakeholder and multi‑author research or policy initiatives.
Managing project operations, timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
Conducting and synthesizing literature reviews.
Qualitative and quantitative research methods.
